Great concept.

Agreed...pity it never quite worked like that.

Yes, but with one caveat, if some 'event organiser' sought to profit by it a la 'Sailnauseum' I can't imagine the royal 'we' consumers would want anything too much do with those 'protectionist' establishment organise for profit outfits that some of you seem to have in their pockets.

I thought for a mo he was having a go with me, normally understandable perhaps, but I've been staying out of this

Ohhhffsake, ok I misunderstood a stab at irony and humour, but with the repeated posts about issues on a particular boat when the general impression is that you're unlikely to be a buyer, you can perhaps understand why your posts were misunderstood. Also despite the continuous renaming that certain members of this forum feel the need to go through I think its safe to say we know who you are, therefore what does it really matter if we use your name or nickname?

Over the last few weeks I've clearly cheesed off a couple of people I'd call friends on here. Look I dont mean to cause any tension, but If I am unahppy with the way you are making a point on here then I'll call it.

Frankly I am getting fed up with the negative nit-picking that seems to be aimed at certain classes on here.

Sure its all personal views and its a forum so we should all take it with a pinch of salt and only judge based on our own experiences, but a) not everyone interprets things the way we do, so may perceive this forum as a font of all dinghy sailing knowledge and b) is it really that big an issue that people need to dedicate page after page of guff on a subject that will actually never impact them?

Most of us on here are fairly regular sailors who enjoy racing dinghies regardless of what they actually are, we just enjoy being out on the water, but I dont think we come across like that to newbies reading this. I'd like to think that the UK sailing community is keen to improve participation and to encourage new blood but currently this forum in my eyes does the opposite and shows us as being a bunch of infighting picky sods who would rather put people off of sailing rather than they start in a boat that we dont rate particularly highly. If you were a newbie how would you feel reading this?

To be honest Paul this thread has moved on, no need to pull it back round into a bun fight.

You are welcome to 'call it' as much as anyone is to make a point about a boat.  It's opinion and it's valid, if you don't like it then fine.  The forum doesn't need self proclaimed policemen.

I am a newbie to other sports, I read forums about cycling, racing and drug cheats.  It doesn't put me off.  Why do you believe that newbies to sailing are anymore sensitive to forum guff than any other sport? Because let me tell you the stuff posted here is positively liberal compared to other forums.

At the end of the day you posting stuff likes this really poors petrol on the flames.  Perhaps if you are really concerned you should pm that member making the contentious point? ....that my friend is feedback!

And to add to that, the forum concept allows user privacy- if you want to use real names use Facebook. It doesn't bother me anyone using my real name, but to others getting doxxed would be seen as a far greater breach of internet etiquette than saying a new product looks a bit sh*t.

Talking about "its just opinions" and " self proclaimed police" and then moaning about being other people's opinions is a touch hypocritical. Either you want a free exchange of views or not..... that my friend is feed back.

To understand why people get a bit prickly about RS take a look at history ....

RS400 - look at our modern take on a Merlin ...
RS600 - look at our modern take on a Contender ...
RS200 - look at our modern take on a N12; with added modern assy kite ...

RS700 - look at our take on a Musto Skiff ...
RS100 - look at our take on a D-1 ...
RS Aero - better than a D-Zero ...

Recent history has seen RS follow 3 Devoti products into the market ... plus them squarely target some traditional classes. None of these new products have grown the market so they have to take share from other classes to grow.

You can understand why people get frustrated by this ... every new class diminishes fleet racing.

What is interesting is to look how history has treated all these product launches ...
