I'd be tempted to get one in the future, although I'd need to be careful when it's windy 'cos of the old knees.... plenty of space for a shortboard in the hull though ;-)
However with a new baby en route for next year I just can't justify spending cash on something that'll only get wet 5-10 times next year at a few handicap opens, the boards are more flexible to a young family lifestyle.... maybe one day though if/when the class takes off a bit more, I've no interest in club racing locally. |

We have a really nice one for sale at Tewkesbury currently. I put the details up on the British moth website. Is that the one you are looking at?

sorry no. that one is a little expensive for what it is. you know what the moth lot are like, they will only pay that much if its wood!!!!!
![]() hope your friend has good luck selling it, all boats( apart for rs300s) seem to be moving a little slow at the moment. the one i am going for is a very similar skinner boat, just a little older. it will do to get me started. if i really like it i might think about one of the new claridge boats, but i think the wife has got first shout on one of them. ![]() Edited by ex laser - 02 Nov 11 at 3:18am |

I have just read the report for the Nationals, looks like you had fun. I don't understand the reason for the double points non discardable last race. Surely that is a match racers dream.
It just needed someone to race Nick down the fleet to last place and he would have ended up 4th. Who knows what would happen in a larger fleet.
I would not like it at an event especially as that stage in an event fatigue, injury or breakages take there toll.

Like you I was critical of the last race format when it was first introduced to the D-One fleet but now, having been involved with events in the UK and overseas with this system of scoring, I am a convert. The format achieves a number of objectives such as:- - reducing the chances of the event leader taking an early shower and leaving the rest to do battle in the last race. I think, however, that Nick was having so much fun that would have been an unlikely event. - It keeps the competition alive to the very end with the last race result being so important. This seems to go down well with competitors and specatators alike. - It give those with some poor results earlier in the series the chance to come back at the end. I realise that this will not apeal to everyone but it seems that, at the weekend, the format was appreciated by all involved. This format has worked well in fleets of 40+ D-Ones, again with everyone more than happy that it was fun to the end. I personally think that if I get too tired or break some gear whilst racing that it's down to my poor preparation on both issues. Not sure who would have gained to have sailed Nick down the fleet in the last race? |

Surely anyone sailing him down in the last race would also get a poor result? So unless sailing has become a tag team event, no one would benifit? Now, if there are 2 boats in with a chance of winning, and clear of the rest, I can see it happening.

There have been many scoring systems over the years that seek to keep the series alive to the last race, and almost all of them have the effect of making the last race much more important than the others.
The exception is the simplest of all - no discards. Each fleet has to go with what it is comfortable with, but personally I think its illogical to accept the principal of having a discard, which to my mind is saying that everyone can have bad luck outside their control in one race, and then say, ah, but if you happen to have that bad luck in the last race then its tough. To me it would be more logical to have no discards. The Olympics is an exception simply because the IOC want it turned into more of a media event than a sporting contest. |

agreed Jim, and having the double whammy back in the first RS100 nationals where the last, double point non discardable race was also an 'extended race' it really did go beyond sorting wheat from chaff and making it too much of an endurance event.... it was interesting to see how many of the bottom half of the fleet didn't return for more of the same a year later.

As I said - 'I realise that this will not apeal to everyone'I am just pleased that everyone at all D-One events has been more than happy with this format.
