good luck Russy..and don't put yourself down, well all know behind the facade of a muppet lies a rockstar ringer drafted in to teach them boys a lesson or two in humility, tactical awareness and downwind boat speed!

Well i had a great weekends sailing at Queen mary this weekend. The D-one really is a fantastic ship. So well balanced and beautifully put together. It is as fantastic upwind as it is down. Saturday was 15 knots gusting more and saw a fair bit of capsizing across the fleet, Sunday a bit less wind but more constant. Some really close racing right across the fleet, Nick Craig taking the honors with Andy Couch Close on his heels. It really was one of the best weekends sailing both on and off the water. Thanks very much to Suntouched sail boats for all their hardwork, Harken for the prizes and Queen mary for some top race management. I hope to be sailing the D-one more as soon as i get the chance....Now Rodney can i borrow one for the Global Warm Up??

why not club together, you two.
that way neither of you will loose too much money. and there is a chance one of you will like it and keep it! ![]() Edited by ex laser - 01 Nov 11 at 2:30pm |

Ha ha, I would keep it no problems. FWIW i dont actually change class that much unless there is a good reason.
Solo- Sold last one as i didn't like it, bought another one as with two young kids i need to have a cheap club racer, i still don't like the boat but it ticks allmy boxes atm
505 - Sold as i could not afford to keep it by myself, brother (crew) was and still is paying for a wedding
Phantom - I sold to take some money out of a boat, following the birth of my second child, i whent halves on the 505 hoping shared running costs would make it a cheap boat to race (it didn't work out that way)
I have had 3xRs300's before that, always seem to go back...Still may, but i have had my fill of RS for the time being tbh.
But i would buy a D-one tomorrow, it is simply the nicest single handed boat i have ever sailed, it ticks all my boxes apart from the all important afforability. Thats not to say they are neccessarily expensive, just that i cant afford one. I am having a bit of a torrid time at work as well so for the time being, i will just have to scratch the itch by borrowing one whenever i can.
I really do think it would be a good option for Jimbo, the hiking position is great, the wing shape supports your legs fantastically and i found little or no preasure on my knees. In fact i ache in a totally different way; more of a muscle ache then anything else bought on from a hard few days racing. I also think it would be a great boat for RTC racing as it is bloody quick on a one sail reach!

You never know until you give it a go. I would encourage it, i was a little dubious about the D-one when it was launched, but they listened to public opinion. The foredeck and wings changed shape slightly and now i don't mind admiting i was wrong. It simply is as good as the Italians were saying (even in rather broken English) I would say i would give an arm for one, but given my gybing skills in breeze this weekend i think i would need to borrow another one rather then give one away.
