In the meantime, then, please do what people repeatedly ask for in Y&Y tests: make a comparison between the D-Zero and a Laser or whatever you fel most appropriate. How stable, ease of tacking, gybing etc. etc. You know what we want

Will do MM- sorted Laser with a significantly more powerful rig, and assuming we get the darker sail out of the ones there today, a very responsive and readible rag.
Bottom line quietly impressed, it exudes elegance and excellence,a fitting singlehsnded companion to the Icon, following less is more and raw simplicity design credentials. My gut instinct is that lots of people will reel out that tautological cliché:'easy to sail, hard to sail well', when in truth it seemed to flatter me in my worst conditions when seriously out of practice - i'd say 'easy to sail, easy to sail well'. Which is great as it will allow a speedier return to tactical thinking and playing the gear changes on that sophisticated unstayed rig. Plopped it over too- rights like a kid in a topper on a beach holiday. Comes up dry and supoorts my bodyweight on the plate without bouncing strsight up with no time LIKE! With James here, I sailed it for the first time yesterday. It is such a well mannered boat. I watched James sail it backwards really well (no piss taking by me, he was doing it on purpose), i ws amazed that the boat didn't want to capsize near the beach it sat so calmly in the water. I was amazed that my arse did not see loads of water poring over the transom easy I see in so many other boats. It picks up beautifully and point pretty well. I would like to sail it on more open water as haversham had some pretty flukes shifts due to the wind direction, but to my mind the zero was very, very at home on a small lake.
In terms of comparison, it is very much like a laser in terms of feel. Just that someone has made one more powerful and ironed out the creases. Great work Dan and Rodney for pulling together what looks to be a future classic

Sounds great and just what I was hoping. I particularly like the 'rights like a kid in a Topper' bit. I absolutely loved my topper as a child, in part because capsize recovery so quick and easy there was no trauma and so strong winds held absolutely no fear. |
