Have now tested both the d-0 and the aero, both in light wind cconditions.

Both are great boats.

But for me there is only one winner= the aero.

If anyone is interested in my reasons, please message me.

Surely the answer to such a question depends enormously on the experience of the person doing the diving? Some people are very strong swimmers who are used to doing much more complicated work underwater than extricating themselves from a rope. Others have others strengths in life and are not good with their heads under the wet stuff. How can anyone class them in the same way?

Personally a lot of the time I'm with Sarge, Jim, Rupert etc - learn how to handle the situation when it's under control.* If you're going to dive under a boat that's fine, but know how long you can hold your breath and how to hold your mind while doing so.

* if I'm not misquoting them....it's been a hard day's sailing in our new (to us) 20' cat in blazing sunshine and 26 knot gusts. Tough life!

That is what I'm saying for sure.

That and the fact that though there may be ropes there, once you are actually inverted it there is pretty much no way that they can pull you down.  So if the method of entry is in a relatively horizontal plane, it would be really, really, really hard to get it caught up in a way that prevented you reaching a source of air.

I'll see your sunshine and 26 knots and raise you 7 degrees, a F3-4, buckets of rain and a 9 year old daughter loving winter racing.

Whitefriars Sailing Club now has an Aero 9 racing. Looks good, but I think there is a learning curve happening, as the boat is currently seen behind a Supernova (which is generally near me in the Lightning) in the light winds we are having curently on a Sunday. Looking forward to actually getting on the water and racing against it.

Hi Duncan,

Given the concerns raised over safety and capsize recovery, I think it would be great to hear your feedback on this aspect of your Aero test sail.  And if there were any teaks needed to your technique, what they were and what you would recommend to those who might read this forum, but don't contribute and in all likelihood wouldn't go to the effort to register and message you.

I think you know that when it comes to safety and sharing good practice, this isn't something we should allow to descend into too much banterful forum stuff.

cheers.

Why would you want to contribute anything useful here, better to complain from the sidelines eh? Moan and whine like a little biatch..

C'mon spill, we're all ears, we know it's for the cupholder and your drink problem.

Don't knock the nova ! Its a very nippy boat, much longer waterline and pretty fast off the wind. That said the 9 is quicker form the brief time I have sailed them back to back. Biggest tip for the aero is you need kicker on permanently to some degree or another. If you sail it with little or no kicker you just get a big crease behind the luff and it will not be fast. What was the sailor in before as a comparison?

James, I didn't post views because I didn't want to have to justify them to small trolls and fan boys and put up the personal attacks that come with them. But hay ho, too late for that.
So here are a few snap shot comments
1) Re capsizing, two of the guys at the demo, their only sailing experience was doing a level 2 course. They both fell in, and righted the boat with out any problem. From what I've seen, first hand, I have no concerns at all.
2) I have never been as impressed after a first sail in any boat as I was after sailing the aero.
3) Re the aero v zero debate. Both great boats, but very different. If your looking to buy a new single hander, try both before you buy. Which ever one you buy, you won't be disappointed.

Not knocking the Nova - but I think the Aero 9 has a lot more speed to come.

He has come to the 9 after selling his 505. He says he keeps on asking his crew to do things still!
