I was very kindly invited by Cirrus to have a look at the Icon plug yesterday.  That really is going the extra mile to give customers what they want and get feedback and opinion...

What a fantastic looking boat!  The deck/cockpit is more curvy than Angelina Jolie and the hull gives the impression it will plane as soon as it moves.  The thoughtfullness and attention to detail is unbelievable and it just looks like it will be so smooth whether it is roll tacking on a mill pond or surfing Penzance's finest waves.  The cockpit looks very spacious and comfy, the bow looks like it would slice butter and I can't wait to try it out!

Sorry, I didn't have a camera with me.
As an example of fhe detail - there will be a recess in the gunwhale at
one point to help locate the boat on a gunwhale hung trolley (the deck
fits flush with the hull, so it doesn't have a gunwhale lip like Lasers,
200s etc).

Why would you have a gunwhale hung trolley if there is no
gunwhale? Is that not just detail for the sake of it?
MikeL was pretty excited about showing it soon

It's kinder on the hull to hang it.

Well No ...   We are going for a hull/deck join that is not generally used on SMODs but it is arguably stronger and it clears spray very cleanly - this does not feature  the 'return' lip you get on most boats so we are simply creating a couple of slight depressions on the underside of the hull ‘flare’ that gives extra hiking width that serve the same purpose.  The depressions simply give a +ve location for the trolley, It is something we have liked previously and was reinforced by more recent experience with the NS14.

You can argue you don't need to have gunwhale hung trolleys - but we like them and if nothing more it makes getting undercovers on so much easier !  In addition some 'cradle' type trolleys do not exactly help launching and recovery in wind and wave either - a well sorted 'hanger' type does.  Lastly I don't like the idea of grit grinding between hull / undercover / cradle if you can easily avoid.

What you will find with Icon is that there is absolutely nothing on it that does not serve a function.  If anything is there it is only because it works or is needed.  No 'styling' features, 'go-fast' stripes or similar whatsoever with this one .... part of the Icon philosophy.  However 'function' has produced an exceptionally attractive 'form' in our opinion - it frequently does with many products as it just 'looks right' when you see it.  It retains a few NS type features but is now very very different overall - aside being noticibly larger.

pictures .... soonish

Gunwhale hanging also preserves slot gaskets...

How frustrating! I've got some pictures of the Icon plug, but I can't work out how to post them on the new forum!  I tried putting them in a Photobox account, but I still can't link them to Y&Y Cry.  I even tried some random flickr photo's, but failed there too.  How do you post pictures??? Confused
