The "student style towing" pics are from Edinburgh Uni SC and it's me in the photos!

I'd just like to point out that it was nothing to do with the towing - the wind picked the trailer up & produced the results shown. If you don't believe me there is a crash report on our sports union website...

From what I have seen in my travels, most university boats are in that condition even without a road crash !!

Our (ex)boats are newer than hw's by a couple of months. Their first outing was SUSA last year and I think they were the newest boats at the 60th anniversary nationals in the summer (or very close to)!

I'd say most unis have ok boats these days, as the flies last quite well. I suppose it depends where you go though. From my experience team racing laser IIs are a nightmare, with tillers that move a foot before the rudder even moves & are also always falling to bits. Maybe there should be a uni sailing map of GB that tells everyone what type of boats & what condition of boats each uni has?

If there is a group of friendly cherub sailors passing Edinburgh anytime they'll need to have a look at them. One of them is in half (bow & stern separate) so I think a conversion to a 12ft skiff or even Cherub could be a real possibility!

Theres a couple (well, one and a bit) friendly cherub sailors in glasgow. Will be at most of the susa events under the strathclyde banner... Im the one moaning about how little sail people put on 12ft boats that weigh 75kg

the firefly is amazing to sail tho.  and now these boats have "lightening holes" in them so they are faster than standard

Lightening holes as in weight reduction rather than Struck By, maybe, which would have left them looking a little more burnt, but possibly in fewer pieces...
