i have nothing against draycote. its a great club, it just does not suit me or my level and type of sailing.
i have spent all of my sailing life on rivers or small lakes, and in these small clubs you nearly always a great atmosphere.
you know everybody and everybody knows you.

like 'the moo' said, its the people thats important not the water.

changing the subject back to the icon. hope 'the moo' does not get one. he is already to fast in his national 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it looks a great boat for smaller inland waters.

Plus can I just say - 'Cheese before Bedtime'....brilliant name! I used to sail a Cherub when I was a yoof, and the names

As were the boats

Carry on...

Mike - I think Cheese is one of Simons designed/built cherubs, but i may be wrong!

I think we've had this conversation before on this forum. I was a member for a few years at Draycote back in the 80's but retained membership at MWYC. Never really settled and found myself back sailing at MWYC whenever I could. In the end I drifted back full time and never regretted it.

I guess for me it's more about the people I sail with and not the water I sail on. Too many great memories (and many more in the making I hope) to give it up and interestingly I am not the only "returnee" from Draycote currently amongst our membership.

I digress from the original thread topic. So if I can have an absolute hoot in an RS300 on our puddle when I am not racing the N12 is there any reason to think I couldn't in an ICON? If the PY comes out in the 1020s and 1030s and it goes in light airs and tacks on a sixpence it might be a worthy replacement?

Moo, not sure if you are one of the ex-WSC'ers like Duncan and myself but I'm glad to see MWYC still doing well. It was sad when Warwick packed up. Its great that people can enjoy their sailing on whatever size of water they have! I have some happy memories from the 24hour races at MWYC (sadly not many from the evenings as I wasnt allowed to stay up - I must have been about 10 at the time!).

Ive offered before but if there is anything you guys need help with results or handicap wise let me know. I'd be only too happy to pop in.

We moved to Draycote when Warwick closed and it was as you say. It was pretty intimidating, not least because now i had to go for longer than 20 seconds without tacking which after coming from the river meant i had to hike for a lot longer!. Plus noone spoke to us for ages, and we were basically ridiculed for not sailing the "right" sort of boat to fit in with the stuffy fleet attitude. However, as a club I think Draycote has done a lot of work in this area and is now friendly and sociable no matter what sort of boat you sail. Though especially so if you have a 300!!!!

Talking of which will you be making the trip up the road for the 300 inlands in October?

Chris

No I have always a been a member at MWYC man and boy! Never a member at Warwick but did sail there when there was inter club team racing. Always got royally thrashed by the home team as I recall!

My induction at Draycote was OK as there were former MWYC members there and to be fair the social side was pretty good as I recall. Just got homesick!!

I think we have a good handle on results and handicapping at MWYC and getting on really well with Personal Handicaps this year, but thanks for the offer.

I can't commit to 300 inlands at present but I hope it goes well.

Sorry for wandering off topic again! Perhaps we need a reminiscing thread!!

Mike's doing Camel Week at the moment, so is probably too busy sampling the Doom Bar to reply...

The hull plug for the new hull is practically complete (may even be done by now), so the first preproduction boats should be ready soon! I can't wait

We may issue a couple of (completed) plug photos next week ... expect a few surprises - tooling coming off it very soon now as well.  Hopefully the next mast is the last one (please !!) and that is due in about 10 days so we should be moving on from '002' very soon now.

Mike L.

PS 'Doom' was great at both Falmouth Week and on the north coast as well ... but we did not take Icon -  it was decided very late not to use '002' as '003' is so near now and it will be better to run this sort of boat-on-boat testing with pure Icon rather than a development hull.
