Well Peaky ... I though the shorts were a bit optimistic as well but you came back smiling all right ... or was that a cold related grimace ? Come along any time, you are very welcome.
The sheet load stuff is relevent and it is fairly high with a 4:1 centremain on a Halo. I think we'll switch it to 5:1 or stern sheet it as I find it a bit tough as well. FWIW we have recently switched as a default to stern sheeting all new Mk3 Blazes/Halos with ratchet block off the boom at the front of the cockpit. You can still specify the stainless centremain tower and block system if you cannot get on with stern sheeting - both options are permitted by the CA. The 'off the boom' option is proving popular and opens up the large cockpit completely as well as making the sheet loads very light and a number of Mk1/2 boats have been converted already. The fans of this sheeting claim it is more natural (if you come from a Laser etc I assume ...!) and results in faster tacking, quicker sheeting in gusty conditions as well as allowing 'heavies' to keep their weight further forward each tack. Got beaten by my old Blaze today, someone who knows how to sail
absolutely toasted me upwind, big lad mind and it puffed up a bit. But the irony wasn't lost.. And he's now bought it. Don't talk to me about it. ![]() |

I started this as a tongue in cheek p**s take of the RS100 and the D1. Never though it would take off. Just goes to show how a good boat like the the Blaze seems to have the public appeal. It does not appear to need a spinaker or trapeze, (Sorry GRF you are in a very small minority) to be popular!!!

Sunshine, you're the one guessing the 'someone' is me, whereas the actual originator of this latest kited s/h breed, and claimant to put 'the fun' back into dinghy sailing was Luca Devoti. Only a very fragile ego, with serious mental health issues, could attribute anything that has occurred in the dinghy industry to the ravings of one forum alter ego. You need help chum, a nice lay down, with a counsellor, was it really that big a disappointment that the hetracil tablets weren't real? |

Greame .... so we really will NOT see you at the Nationals after all the goading ! And after you paid your CA dues as well ... and I really can keep the Blaze spinnakers for another day !.
![]() If you ever want to join us happy luddites again ... (like every time its over 7-8kn ;-) you are most welcome. We will miss the banter ... well some of it at least. Might be a bit more worrying when the new owner gets up to speed though .... still you could always buy a new Blaze sometime, with a Halo rig maybe and I'll FOC a pair of trapeze wires ,,,, Mike L. |

No, sadly not, but the new owner most definitely will and he's going to
buy a new sail. Nice guy, one of our club regulars, has looked after me on a number of occasions, but don't hold that against him. I have a job on my hands, trying to master this new boat, it's a lot less forgiving than the Blaze, but equally rewarding when you get it right. Surprising how much smaller, the 100 is. I still maintain the Blaze with the Alto pole system would have been an excellent product. Whatever it's academic now. |

Good grief, can't a chap capsize inprivate any more?! I'd love a photo
- don't suppose you got one of me doing 20kts (the whole of the rest of my sail!)? Cold? Not a bit of it - I'd never dream of wearing a wetsuit in that weather. In fact, my wetsuit doesn't zip up anymore, so I haven't been properly suited for months! Off boom sheeting with a stern sheet would be good. |

That's an excellent write up on what sounds like a superb event! It is events and reports like this that can really tempt you into a class. I hope the Icon shares some events with the Blazes, sounds like it would be a great laugh.

We could have had 58 but a few of our pre-booked must have looked at the 'light' forecast presumably and stayed away. Well is was light for a bit and then it was medium and then a bit hard core. Something for everyone...
If you have not tried one in full on conditions in waves in a bit of breeze you have missed one of life's minor pleasures ... The youngest was 14 and the oldest .... well old enough for something much more 'traditional' if he were into 'pipe and slippers' mode - (fill in the missing class name !). It is perhaps worth pointing out that many boats now have rear sheeting with the ratchet block on the boom well at the front of the cockpit. This has signicficantly reduced sheet loadings and totally opened up the cockpit - allowing a wider range of helms to enjoy themselves and be competitive. It also arguably allows much faster tacking with the helm staying further forward - but it is personal choice and some prefer the original system. Mike L. |
