Try being nearly 28 and uninsurable on my wifes 2008 1.2 Renault clio!!!!!  (Thank god for company cars)  There really is no quick answer when it comes to insurance.  You either pay up and put up, or walk!!  Insurance shouldnt be any more for a diesel and capacity has little or nothing to do with it.  Most vehicles have an insurance grouping.  As a young lad, you need to look for a car group 4-5 and under really.   Good Luck

Honda Jazz ?.....available with a 1.2 or 1.4 engine, the rear seats drop into the floor to give a completely flat load carrying area. We've used it with roof-bars to carry the Topper or a Laser Bug and we've towed my old Vareo behind it. A 'new shape' Jazz has just come out so there might be some bargains to be had with the 'old shape' version at a Honda dealer

when i was 18 i inherited ma and pa's old mk 3 golf. 1.9 diesel cl. had 180,000 on the clock and was still going fine. Insurance was less than a grand, just! that thing coped with anything. you can pick one up for a grand. the mk 4 are good also but apparently not the same reliability as the old mark 3 cl. I used to wind the passengers seat down flat and put a lilo on it and sleep like that, was fine.

That attitude is exactly why you should have a sh*t car until you grow up a bit. Premiums for young drivers are high for a very good reason - it's a much bigger risk for the insurers! And if you're 28 and can't get insured on a 1.2 Clio, you've been doing something very wrong!

No FD? No Comment!

When getting a quote, add your parents onto the insurance as named drivers. This is legal, and will help bring your insurance down massively. I'm 23 and have 5 years no claims and it still makes a big difference for my premium.
