Funny you should mention that, I was only looking at one the other day
wondering the same. Damn boom's a bit low on them, ducking under that
and gybing the kite would be a work of art..

I figure a redistribution of sail area to raise the boom would be more likely than a kite. And they seem perfectly happy with it where it is...

heh, until you get wedged underneath said boom, having failed to let the kicker off before you tacked, seconds before the start, so you unwittingly reverse away from the start line.....
the same, but different...

Maybe you should suggest moving some sail area up to the top from the bottom. Higher boom, stylish fathead main...

How fast does the 3000 go singlehanded? Does it work well with kite one-
up?

Our cat (F16 type Taipan 4.9) can be sailed one up or two up, and it's a great
thing to have in a boat. The fairly long, low, skinny L3000 shape would
surely be the only way to get it to work in a dinghy - even a boat as nice as
the NS14 is surprisingly slow one-up because it's higher and has too much
freeboard and maybe the shape changes too much as weight drops.

I've sailed against a two-up Contender; maybe not a bad idea. BebBob
designed a bigger two-man version but it never took off.

I think Nick's earlier post is spot on - multi purpose boats are always a compromise.

This is no different to any other sport or in fact category of product.

How often do you get a product that replaces two equally well?

Just look at a hybrid flat bar bike, is it a good road bike ...no  is it a good mountain bike ... no. but then again millions of them get sold; and then end up gathering dust in sheds.

Buy the boat that does what you want; then buy another if you have a different need.

There is an equation for the number of boats (and bikes) you need.

The number is = n + 1

Where n = the number of boats (or bikes) you already own.

Good point but this has to be countered by the following equation:

DI + MB

Where DI is Disposable Income and MB is Marital Bliss

Ever tried a Tasar one up? The two of us come in at about 70 kilos each and
the boat is 68 kilos. Take me out and with an all up wieght of about 138
kilos its bloody quick in light winds but things very quickly get out of hand
when it blows up a bit!

True, but if you get it wrong it always costs more ... try as many boats as you can is the best solution. Answers on a forum can give you good guidance but there is no substitute for the test drive.
