Final thought for you ...........Laser Stratos, combines all the best of the others you are considering (don't go for the Omega) and is very seaworthy for when your family grow up a bit. Gives a good feeling of security for youngsters and has all the other bits, asymmetric and training trapeze. When its windy it will even give an exhilerating ride. You should get a good second hand one (centreboard) for about £4K to £5K

Good luck

Well, I took a scoot up to the dinghy show on Saturday, well worth the trip. Got myself a drysuit, all I need now is something to sail!

I didn't like the Topper Omega, it looked all wrong. The Laser 2000 and RS Vision both look good and I'll try them at some point. Made the effort to look at the updated Wanderer and that is a nice boat, but not quite what I'm after.

Neilboys, I looked at the Stratos, but it is bigger than I am thinking of.

Thanks all for the help,

I read the advice and decided that I don't need a family dinghy for a good few years yet (my daughter is 8 months!) and therefore I got this instead.

I have managed to complete 3 races at Papercourt as helm, all in last place. More practice needed!
Sorry for enormous picture, I couldn't work out to how to get it to a sensible browser (as opposed to file) size.

(I know, I know, a mainsheet helps. It was rigged by the time I got in the water.)

Unfortunately not, I'd already booked a holiday, long before joining Papercourt or buying a Laser.

Never mind, I'm so bad I'm not sure I'd have wanted to compete. Plus I'm looking forward to the trip.
