Having checked the boats next to mine in the dinghy park as well as my own I was quite confident, but went to check this morning to find the 4 Tonner next to me off its trailer and cuddling up very close to my Canoe. On inspection his tie down ropes were rotted and had snapped...

They look like an artifical rope to me, so presumably its UV damage. Rather a nasty suprise. Fortunately it had landed in the gap between boats and I don't think either is damaged. So don't just check your knots, check the rope as well!

The rest of the club infrastructure isn't too clever: three of our racing marks have shed their moorings and I fear we may have a sunk rescue boat!

One boat in garage with a bit of gelcoat drying as i type, so more than happy with that one, t'other boat with tyres under the bow in the boat park, would be worried by it, but it's a laser.

Fingers crossed for mine, I have foot long stakes in the ground, can't be said for all boats in my dinghy park.

Mine is in the garden, i could watch it fly away from where im sitting. Lucky its tied to a couple of trees which hopefully won't go anywhere, if they do i think the boat will hav already gone!

The trouble with not having tyres under the front of some boats is that a nice big pool can collect in the front of the cockpit... and when that pool goes over the breather hole... you get one rather heavy boat, granted its probably not going anywhere but im pretty sure itll not do it much good. Possibly slightly class specific on the breather hole side of things, but a cockpit full of water is never going to be good in any boat.

I think the problem for Flying Fifteens is that they present a large area to the wind. My boat is head(ish) to wind and is a lot more stable than the ones pointing the other way...

The beauty of a tiny ( tree lined ) boat park ... about 10 meters thick of trees on almost every side ...

Even a good force 7 will hardly rustle the trees next to you ...

Just got to hope that the tree's dont decide to come tumbling down into said boatpark.

You got blown off a Ho? Jees, that's nasty!

Biggest danger seems to be the boats around mine that aren't tied down properly- me and the dog were grovelling round the boatpark looking for old bits of rope to hold a few of them down tonight. The 200's seem to specialise in not tying the bow down to the trolley so they end up all skewed, on at the back, but not at the front. If you read my last post in this topic, the 505, 14 and Buzz (not an ISO as I called it before) are still all abandoned. The FF15 has been moved, but has now blown off its trolley backwards and is sitting with its nose in the air.

If your boat is propped up by tyres at the bow remove them if you can because they get moved out of place easily which means that the tie-down rope goes slack so nothing is stopping it from moving around!

This had happened to my boat today but fortunately someone moved all the tyres and tied it down to the ground before it blew away.
