Seems the thoughts are they will be fine, perhaps even flourish? Does having full timers in the fleet actually put some off knowing they have no chance of being anywhere near them?

When I say 'fine', it's obviously dependent on iGRF not going back on his Finn opinions, actually sailing one and thus killing the Class off.

Yes

It’s all a shambles

In terms of the Finn fleets nationally and globally they will be fine

For each full timer who packs up there will be several sailors who join the fleet

Kit may get cheaper ?

There will also be some sailors who were put off attending events because of the
presence of the full timers who now will join in ?

The UK fleet won’t noticeably be affected but it’s a shame now that we can’t rub shoulders with the super stars (even if it usually just in the dinghy park or at the bar !)

Everything written here is bang on the money IMHO, and the U23 boys have had an amazing experience over the last few years that’ll stand them in good stead for whatever Sailing comes next for them.
The Finn Class, both in the UK and abroad will continue to flourish, the only issue being how to attract the younger generation outside of Olympic ambitions. Cameron is naturally devastated by what has happened, but is working on a plan that’ll see him continue towards his Olympic dream, but unfortunately these routes aren’t open to all the young Finn lads, as for most it’s a physical impossibility to get down to weight for other classes.

That said, who amongst us would like to predict what comes next, after the this report has been published this morning?

Oh dear!!!!

. Not sure that the Olympics will really affect things that much

Exactly - and whilst I feel for those lads, they have at least had an amazing experience and trained hard with the best support any young person could dream of. I wish them well for their medium term futures, on and off the water, safe in the knowledge the Finn will still be the premium choice class for them if they want to pursue sailing in the masters category when they hit their forties and fifties.

On the whole the to guys don't turn up to the UK events (u23 squad excepted) as they have bigger fish to fry. The UK events are still well supported and the masters circuits get bigger and bigger. Now those guys have no chance of getting to the Olympics. Not sure that the Olympics will really affect things that much
Everything I say is my opinion, honest
