Fair enough......it has but so did my 1970 Range Rover (not sailing of course) but power steering improved it for women.

We can all lob some hand grenades at the Laser and Radial- beastly boats.... but the one thing they do seemingly offer is great competitive sailing- despite the boats. That is why they are popular, that is why club weekend and summer evening series are full of men AND WOMEN racing Lasers and Radials- sometimes scratch off the same start line with a 'class prize' for first full rig and first radial. Given it seems infinitely more popular than the Byte, here at least, I fail to see how they are less representative of us sailing plebs.... Maybe 'the boy' could go and give Annalise a fair race... who knows, if he won he would actually get that endeavour invite that has so far eluded him (and Big Ears). |

Even Bike frames come in big and small for big and small people. I am not a wild revolutionary like that Fuller lad, I just want it to be fair and sensible. Half the Byte fleet are ordinary standard size women who are comfortable in the boat and bloody quick as well. At Sailfest the Byte cognoscenti were together in the boat park surrounded and overshadowed by the bulk of the Phantom fleet. As far as I can see all you lot favor Amazonian women who can dominate you....or there is a strong infection of misogyny.

Even in the Byte, being 6ft and 60kg will be better than being 5ft and 60kg. A sporty physique will always have an advantage. Sometimes life ain't fair.
You could try keelboat racing... |

it is..... the only other olympic class with as low a cost of entry is the RS:X. Cost of entry was the primary reason ISAF dumped the Europe in favour of the arguably 'lesser boat' that is the Radial. Taller people have some advantage in some sports, shorter people in others. Same with weight. We are lucky in that there are plenty of sailing medals enabling such a broad spectrum of body types to excel at this high level of competition. Weights and Heights for London 2012 top three, hardly 'Amazonian' compared to their fellow Olympians in netball, volleyball, Judo, long jump, high jump... 60kg / 1.76cm - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/athletes/7f630ffa-de3c-42a7-911c-fc1ec2f5e78e 66kg / 1.77cm - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/athletes/3e521f49-3e58-4535-a970-7203a17fd098 70kg / 1.72kg - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/athletes/ea82e9c8-f3a1-4555-a46c-888a981acbce Anyway, back to some misogyny.... on the above: shag, marry, avoid? |

I'm just jealous you had an original series 1 range rover. Design classic. Look so cool and leggy and rangy compared to today's more vulgar versions. Only just being valued as a classic in its own right.

Bugger....facts just got in the way of a good argument, still it occupied my time while I recovered from pursuit racing yesterday where I was thrashed by an 8.5 stone girl in a similar Lightning. I did however beat 3 Lasers.
By the way, don't get me started on the Endevour....
