You still can buy a decent Hornet for silly money. My modern(ish) race one cost us £500 on a combi. We have spent a bit but not much on it and boy have we had some fun (and swims).  Tickler I can  arrange for you to have a ride on a planker any time.

The size must be an optical illusion - it is an International Moth from about 1970 - a Skol MkII built by Rondar, and in amazing condition for the age.
