'Andy' just saw the camera and all of a sudden it was just like his dancing - all the style of the exhibitionist that is normally kept in check ! And besides it keeps him fit for when we both have to hike harder ...
The Blaze fleet are visiting Burghfield this weekend and the 'pub-on-corner-of-lake' is hosting a 'Blues Brothers' tribute band on Saturday evening. We have already been speculating whther we allow him along after sailing .... a couple of beers and a live band .. we all know what can happen to 'Andy' from previous experience. Mike L. My boat has had the rudder sorted, plus a few other mods. Has anyone changed the single toe strap set up?

yup, four to strap adjustable set-up. Much more comfortable and easier to hike harder for both crew. Also fitted a shockcord downhaul and rope uphaul for the centreboard. Still haven't found the perfect jib cleating. Was considering fitting two cleats per the dangly pole control and sheeting the the jib off the forward bulkhead. Have spare fittings if you want to try it. Devoti recon it'll work

This is my solution for the jib cleats. Seems to work well.

All Icons have floor hard points for 'dual' toestraps whether or not fittings are in place. The class does not control toestraps or sheeting systems.... and you have a choice of thwart or not. That is about it really.
The single toestraps / off- boom sheeting / no thwart approach does work very effectively and was tried following on from NS14 practice but if you have not sailed like this previously it will take a few sessions for a crew to adapt. Younger crews who have sailed some other recent boats will take to it instantly but it is not the only way of course ! It is entirely the choice of the crew and their preferences in these areas can all be accomodated... Mike L. |

Last night the Burghfield SC sailing committee discussed the Icon PN. The following was minuted:
There was discussion about how Icon's performance related to a Merlin - the Icon is more suited to 'small pond round the cans' racing & hence could be faster than a Merlin at BSC. However, on more open water it was agreed that the Merlin would be faster. Given that no adjustment is given to any other classes at BSC, the fairest thing was to come up with a more general number for Icon, but possibly erring on the punitive side to reduce 'bandit' claims! It was also noted that other clubs will look to see what BSC is using as an example. Unless the RYA change their system, we need more 'rubbish' sailors to race Icon to bring down the average. Any volunteers?? (I'm trying to do my bit...!!) Mike B. |

Sorry I can't help by buying an Icon and naturally reducing the handicap through organic methods, however for comedy value, I am quite prepared to send Mike a bucket and piece of string to drag around for a few races if this is any conciliation?
