Yes i understand that, read my post again, I just dont understand why it affects a race that was at the time of the incident, not being sailed.  I agree that he should be dsq from the event but not sure why the race, which had already finished, would have a change in its result.  I have to say I would expect a ban for anyone who does this kind of thing.  As much as I admire Ben for his sailing prowess he should be able to deal with this sort of situation more cleanly.  The sheer amount of kids out there who idolise him should make him think twice about this sort of behaviour.

I hope he doesnt get a ban, being a fan of his, but at the same time I hope they dont treat him differently to anyone else just because he is who he is. Whatever the outcome I am confident of gold at weymouth, Giles is a truly great sailor too and I am sure he will do us proud if the olympic spot falls to him.

The International Jury have disqualified Ben from Races 9 & 10 and that is that - no further action.

IJ decision can be found here.

Well if that is the final decision then I am glad.

I once got in a rule 69 situation but was on the receiving end of the misconduct. The incident involved an Italian sailor who I had already been in a protest with at a world championships, I won that protest which made him angry.  All was fine until later that night we were out in the town socialising and him and his team rocked up and kicked off at us, then the next day my boat had also been vandalised.  I notified the organisers of the incidents and they decided to open a new protest under rule 69 against him.  The italians involved were very sorry for their actions so I decided I would not push a decision against them and in the hearing asked for it to all be called off because it was getting a bit silly.
I soon came to regret this action because at the next worlds the same guy started another fight on one of the evenings and the organisers would not have anything to do with it, nothing serious happened but it was a matter of principle.  Some people just never learn.  But I am sure Ben will not make this mistake!

In answer to why it woul affect race 9...his actions would as a result of an incident in that race...thus DGM for that.
My real question is where the hell was his coach boat?
Swift action by his coach could have prevented this and we would have seen Ben in the medal race.

In answer to what his sponsors will be saying bet they are rubbing their hands in glee...will be major coverage in UK papers tomorrow and already receiving major coverage in Aus

If that is the end, it's good Ben made this mistake where it doesn't really matter. Better than in the Olympics. Anyway Giles Scott is now the leader.

Worth noting this from the RYA statement:

There have been various rumours in the media about Ben having ‘assaulted’ the driver of the boat.  As far as we’re concerned there wasn’t an assault which took place, and as far as the driver was concerned that was part of his statement to the jury so we’re pretty keen to put that to bed and recognised that that’s a bit of over exaggeration and sensationalism.

The URL to the photo sequence in the OP doesn't help.

Folks,
I don't believe this is all over. There will be a report to the Australian Yachting Federation, the RYA and ISAF.

If I understand the process correctly I would say that if he gets out of this with just the penalties at the event then he can count himself very very lucky indeed. I suggest that a ban remains a distinct possibility.

If you look at the sequence he's just stepping over him to dive off the bow.
