the advertising sucks, typical BOC mentality though, its always been very introverted down there. im not sure how they do the invites but Ricks spot on with how it should be done, its not lilke your going to turn down the invite to race against some of the best sailors in the country is it? the event can always be held on a set weekend in october, all the ivites then go to the top 30 classes associations from the season, and if you cant make it then it goes to second place etc, and if the class cant make it move down the list to the next class. is anyone going down to watch? i'll be down on sunday racing pj, if ive got time between racing in BOC and at the Blackwater i might have nose round. |

That is how it is ... when I did it I had another MPS sailor crew ... we were dog slow downwind way too heavy. Even the helm say of the 505 champ can switch to a lighter crew; very sensible otherwise if you are lumbered with a heavy crew you would not bother.

Good Point... Didn't think of that.
I like this idea for an event get all the champs in together. But Its so hard to make it fair! As you say weight and experience in similar boats is going to be such a big factor. For example the RS200 / RS400 guys (any 2 man assy hikers) are going to have an advantage. The only way I can think of to make it more fair would be to have a round robin type event where they sail a variety of different boats. But I doubt this would actually be feasible. Would cost to much to get all the boats etc. Still I think its a good idea. Edited by JimiQuik |

not really fair that Jimi, how could 2 phantom sailors cope!! Best part of 30 stone competitng against an experienced N12 coupling at about 20 stone wet!! Also how can it be fair a single handed sailor racing a two man assy boat with no assy experience! I say helm has to be champ and crew can be drafted in, like it already is!

Can the single handed classes get anyone to crew for them?
Is Penny Clark in the Musto the Olympian Penny Clark? If so has she ever sailed a Musto? Surely both helm and crew should be a representitive from the class they are sailing for. |

Lets get this straight I am not blaming the EPS boys for accepting the place; I would do the same; it is a great event to do ... My point is that the invitation process needs a look ... |

I think Rick has a point but this just smacks of the mishandling of what
could and should be be a crown jewel in the dinghy sailing world. Realistically the event has to run outside the main dinghy sailing season and part of the problem is that Nat Champs are still running into September - so who is eligible is not known until late . I bet the invites are sent out to all the National Winners they can contact (and some CAs may be at fault here) and when they have 30 replies back they are full. And who can blame them (and I'm not sure who "they" are) - they don't want to be left with empty slots. I suspect it is 1st come 1st served. If the profile of the event was higher and the date of the event was publicised at the beginning of the season rather than the week in which it is taking place, then the top 30 classes should be falling over themselves to be represented and we should not see classes outside the top 50 classes represented. So don't blame the EPS boys because they responded to an invite, which presumably went to "all" classes. If your class isn't there (and one of mine isn't) why is that? |

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

It does .. They tries just as hard at their nationals as the people at the Mustos / Lasers / Toppers / Fireball ... Just becuase its such a mainstream class doesn't mean they shouldnt be allowed to compete with the "best" ...

If all the classes in the top 30 took up their slot then so be it ... but to have the 109th biggest class represented dosn't seem right does it? |
