My old man towed 2 solo's to an event in Holland behind his 800cc mini. So it just goes to show you don't need loads of power!

Don't sleep in the car, get a bivvy bag.  Far more comfy and opens up lots more possibilities on the car front.

When I bought my Mondeo, I purposely visited the showroom, opened up the hatchback folded down the seats and jumped in. The guy in the showroom thought I was mad, but sleeping in the back at events was one of my main buying criteria.

1.8LX is fine for towing anything and I can sleep in the back on an inflatable air bed and I'm 6ft 2".

Always found it difficult to sleep in the Citroen Saxo I had as the back seats didnt fold flat, the boot was too small and the front seats only reclined one notch further than normal driving position!

Any suggesting more than a 1.2 should go and try and get
some quotes posing as 17 year old who has just passed
the test.

Thanks for all this advice!

I will be towing a 29er (maybe a 49er soon) and also a double stacker with a couple of Fireflys on. One thing i did actually forget to mention was the fact that id only really be sleeping in it when its not possible to put up a tent for whatever reason. I was considering a Ford Focus Hatchback or a Vauxhall Astra but im not sure on whether these are big enough, does anyone know?

Thanks again guys!

I'm 6'2" and my ford focus was fine.  The seats folded flat and it was pretty comfy, once you had put an airbed or roll mat out.

I had a 2 litre petrol which was a great tower, but may spank you on insurance.  A 1.6 or 1.4 should be fine.

Seriously, with £5500 I'd buy any reliable motor under
group 4 insurance and get a room for the night where
ever you go.

www.parkers.co.uk
have all the info you need. Click on the insurance tab
on the left and sift through until you narrow down the
options.

You'll have transport sorted and won't have to deal with
rubbish nights sleep. At least with a B&B you'll get a
full English and shower to cure your hangover after
you've slept it off in a nice cosy double bed with
whatever you managed to pull the night before.

If you get a Cherub you don't need a lot of power anyway

right... im a 18 year old 'youf' passed early april 09, i have a 1.2 Nissan Micra G reg(1989)

insurance for me? around £1500,(Third Party Fire and Theft, as the main driver)
just been sailing today and had to tow a laser 4000(anyone around J14-17 on the M25 will know how long and nasty the hills are!) my car was sticking at 60 nicely the whole way and only had to drop to 4th a couple of times. *also we had both our kit and foils/kite in the car with us and they fitted in fine with one of the backseats dropped

also towed my doublestacker with a rs200 and a laser and the car was pulling it fine

towing is all about YOUR driving style and not how much power you have...

£1500 3rd party for a 20 year old Micra!  Crickey, there are advantages to being old!

It also depends where you live. I live in the middle of no where so my insurance is instantly less and the car is kept of the road which also helps. It was free to insure me on my dad's 2.0L Cavalier when my brother was on it...
