Their website is up now http://www.tomahawkfoils.com/ it was 404 yesterday. Interesting that these foils have no moving parts. |

I am unsure whether it is both foils which have no moving parts, or just the main foil. The tiller looks to be similar to the twist grip on the moth. I hope that they really do have no moving parts as that would aid manufacture, reduce cost and also obviously reduce the chance of gear failure.

That extension looks too thin to be a twist grip ...

The extension can be any thickness you like to be a twist grip, it's the fitting on the tiller which is the bit you need to look at.
Without reading too much into the couple of photos as I know they aren't really representative of the way the boat is sailed, It seems suprising that heeling the boat to windward and having the foil break the waters surface would be quicker than keeping the boat flat and keeping the foil submerged. I quite like the idea of short foils. Less distance to fall when it goes Pete Tong! |

Short foils might be less forgiving waves/chop though...

Yes, this is true. Swings and roundabouts I guess. In being lower to the water you may be affected more than being higher up.
I am intrigued to know how the foil knows when you are at the waters surface. The lift generated is affected by speed, so would it potentially porpoise when you get going really quick, or will the drag caused at such high speeds prevent it from going any faster and so stop it from ultimate lift off? So many questions! hmmmm ![]() |
