I would not paint it.
To get the top coat to stick you will need a primer, then the top coat. It will all add weight and stop the grip being grippy. Plus as the paint is on the grippy stuff it will wear very quickly giving a mottled rubbish appearance as the primer will be a different color.

(speaking as someone who has done it before)
If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

So its looking like sanding the old stuff down and re-gripping is the best way to go?  ant advice on the best stuff to use? any tips on preparation so that it'll stick as best as possible to the carbon deck?

fergus best think i would do is buy some deck paint an off white international one and paint the floor one it gives you grip and 2 it sticks to most surfaces nicely and doesnt need undercoat i'm sure someone else will say it doesnt work but its worked on 2 fireballs and a cherub.

is the boat white i cant remember since last seeing it or is it that silver grey gelcoat that everyone seems to use

ps forgot to mention its what i'll be using on the cherub to paint over the carbon deck i;ve jsut put on

Why not just stick progrip over the deck?

Hi Guys, thanks for the advice. Seeking the advice of Ovi's/Bov atm. seems that im likely just to patch it for now and get sailing, then sort it properly another time. The progrip idea is a gooden, might consider it!

Thanks again
