he made some comments along the line of "some idiot will buy it and I'll make 1000's".
Thing is would anyone really buy something like a VXR220 from a small garage hidden away in an industrial estate in Crawley. I'd not and did not when I bought my WR1 ! |

Sounds like a mate of mine who bought a dinghy from a very well known manufacturer. It had a serious structural failiure, so he sent it back. Then, a few weeks later the same boat turns up at the nationals, sold on to some other poor bugger.

I have to be carefull because of the industry i work in but i do know of a car manf, that put a ar back through the system which had fallen off a transporter, because it was written off before it was regd you cant trace it!!!!!! and no you wouldnt buy a VXR220 from a small back street garage not without HPI checking the car at least! |

That is what I cannot work out either, surely there would have been some kind of insurance claim/accident report made which would flag this up.... I gave up after page 20... |

HPI will only report info given to insurers etc. If you crash your car and decide to get it repaired yourself, you have a duty to tell the Ins Co you have had a crash, but you don't have to tell them how bad it was or the damage to the car (you might have to tell the finance co mind you). The HPI came up showing the number plate changes the car that was for sale had been thru, one of the plates the "car for sale" had had was the same as the crashed car.

No way I'm going to read through that train wreck, but in all these things the only thing that counts is quality of workmanship. Any number of major classic car restorations have had just as much work done as any write off repair.
Come to that how about vintage yacht restorations... Sometimes they end up with precious little of the original boat left... I'm just doing a major job on my Canoe. It seems that a previous owner had left water in it, and large chunks of internal structure have rotted out. If I'd called in the insurance company they'd have written it off. But I've stripped it back to the carbon shell (which is in first rate condition), and I'll put in new carbon framing and new decks. I reckon it will be better than it was when new when I've finished. Is that unsafe? |

I am sure if that was the case they would have told the new owner what he was buying and he'd have got a bargain ... |

Well you thankfully dont have the DVLA for the dinghy industry! The boat builder wont of done anything wrong as long as he has repaied it, the sale of goods act doesnt stop him! It would only be a problem if he hadnt fixed it or he sold it as a new boat
