Do Topper organise the event, or is it the Class Association? Topper may nopt have that much say. If RS are offering x UKP in extra sponsorship and Topper don't want to match...
And I really don't think even Topper would consider the Topaz to be a significant choice for Topper National competitors.

They also have the 'Topaz', they are in effect admitting 'Aero' is a better adult boat.

exactly this   - there is the still the aspect of the  coming out  of thesquad system into being a 'good'  adult sailor  in terms of support andcoaching ( and possibly opportunities if not  in awell paid work  or a hired gun )

Yes,  Laser/ ILCA are relative cheap second hand but the price of a new Aero/Zero/ILCA are all in the same ball park .
Yes we all would like progression in double handers but if they haven’t already transferred to Fevas before they are too big for Toppers , it’s not going to happen .

Topper =cheap. Laser= plentiful at a range of prices. Aero = crazy price for a little single hander.

How many Topper parents will be shelling out £7.5k+ for little Johnny / Jeanette's new boat. I don't see the laser / ilca being abandoned as the progression class just yet.

After an aero demo day of which I partook, RS called me to offer a new one for £4500. Should have done some speculation!

It would be nice to see some progression into double handers mind.

Maybe what RS are really just saying that the Topper is the natural/ideal 'feeder' boat for the Aero.  Equally it might invite future 'imitation' of their marketing approach tactics in reverse - you have to beware unintended consequences in every approach considered !!

In my own class we were more than happy to share events with other classes when their makers also sought to showcase their offerings.  Our CA went out of their way to encourage informal trials across these fleets at these multi-class meetings whenever and however the opportunity arose .... it worked for the class rather well in the early days as it was establishing itself - and still does today.   Wink

People seem to be reading a lot into this.
I would have thought it's no big deal for test sails to be offered in a class where most of the sailors will inevitably move on?
It might be nice to see some two hander options being presented?
