I have three of the fleet insured with insurance4dinghies (was towergate Mardon and formerly Red insurance). Have found them very good until recent years where they have a multi level policy (Gold, Silver, Bronze) where basically only Gold is suitable and frankly costs a bomb. On the daughter's Topper I've shifted to GsomethingW and when it comes to renewal time will probably move the Grad,OK and Oppie over as well.

I had a really bad experience with Red(Towergate) a few years ago.
been with Noble ever since and wouldn't use anyone else now. |

Completely irrelevant to the main point of this thread, but I can't help noticing that GJW rapidly jumped well into the lead on the poll over the first few hours it was up, whereas since then the number using GJW has stalled and Noble had forged ahead!
Should we conclude that those who insure with GJW tend to spend far too much time online reading forums like this, while those who insure with Noble lead more balanced online lives?

As a GJW user, that sounds quite likely, sadly.

Or you could say that those on noble end up spending half as much again as gjw because they haven't done any research because they haven't spent enough time online

Spot On in my case... (That and the fact they sponsored that damn GL series so I didn't give them a second look) There are a few hours in the day left when I'm not online... Then I also spend all that time sleeping. ![]() |

I used to favour Towergate but was dissappointed with them when I was sailing in from racing in Weymouth Bay on starboard and an Osprey was on port, none of us really looking and we collided. The moron in the Osprey claims that as it was my bow that hit his side it should be 'knock for knock' and Towergate sent his insurer a letter to try and get them to pay up and the moron wouldnt admit fault and came back with some more rubbish, at this point Towergate said that the legal cover only covered 1 letter and that therefore they couldnt recover the loss, I feel that if I pay for legal cover I should get just that, not just 1 letter! Moral of the story - if you smash up a boat insured my towergate dont admit fault and then you will get away scot free after 1 letter!
I am now with GJW but have thankfully never claimed.

Have been with Bishop Skinner for years. Good prices and old fashioned proper service- although I never claimed. Apparently they have been taken over, my renewal quote was 60% higher than last year. Looks like GJW will be gaining another customer

We had a few awful experiences with GJW; two claims where they didn't pay out on technicalities like the boat being wet in the pictures and one where we ended up doing all the work to get a claim paid by the other boat's insurer and they not only tried to interfere with how the repair was carried out but tried to charge us for the admin they didn't do. We also had friends who did have their claims paid but only the repair itself, not the refinishing.
Ultimately we felt that we couldn't trust them to pay out if we had a big claim, canceled our policies and went with Craftinsure. Definitely worth paying the extra to know that if we have an issue with any of our boats we won't be out of pocket.
