A couple of years the paid financial director of the Opera House in my local town retired after many years. His successor was a personal friend of the Artistic Director who has been very successful over a considerable period. As soon as this chap was appointed (a paid post) he started nicking money in a very obvious way, about fifty grand odd. After about 9 months he was caught and prosecuted. This took the Artistic director out as well by association. It was as if he wanted to be caught....very odd.

Our own club has a treasurer who is always reluctant and who is not an accountant. There is not enough money to nick!

A peruse of the club AGM minutes on their website indicate a change of Auditing Arrangements in 2013 ... dont know if this exposed the fraud or facilitated the fraud ... but it does highlight the dangers of cosy financial arrangements.  Many clubs would love to have that level of reserves though.

Yes - incredible though it may seem ... 

the remaining proper Building Societies for at least several ... ( certainly yorkshire BS ( and it;s other nameplates) and Nationwide)

       He has been found guilty but sentencing won't happen until later this month. The newspapers still haven't named him as best I can tell.
