Maybe ... but the Icon has been through a number of builders in its short life ... make of that what you will ....

yep- and compare that to the Devoti / Suntouched support put behind the D-Zero.... okay, not exactly RS marketing machine credentials; but a solid effort, engaging with a modest number of early adopters, all of whom seem happy to recommend the boat to their mates.  The same fate did not await the Icon, not by a long way, yet the concept are hardly dissimilar-- simple, easy to sail, low maintenance and SMODy in their approach... and the big one, good value, damn good value compared to established classes like Solos, Merlins, OKs, 400s etc.

In fact, does anyone still actually sail one regularly anywhere?  Double figures yet?

It must be so hard establishing market share in a sinking market particularly with double handers. I notice that Hartley are still advertising Byte at the 2014 show price of £3000.00 and yet I know they have built quite a lot of boats. They are shrewd operators so they must think they need more boats out there to achieve success. Only time will tell but in a couple of weeks I will post a picture of six very active C2's at our little club.

Are you still sending the film to Triple Print to be developed up there? It must smart to pay extra to have them put them on a CD too or will you get 'the boy' to scan them for you?

I am trying very hard.......but I cannot understand this comment, unless of course you are implying digital incompetence due to age? or is it even more obscure than that? I said 'post' meaning on here, you could be reading this as 'post' as in mail? Please enlighten me!

Ah!  the logical mind of youth! The photo is not taken yet!  I cannot assemble the full team for a couple of weeks. We pick up the former boys boat on Saturday from Hartleys, the current National Champion is a (small) medical consultant nothing like James Roberson Justice)  on call next week and one of the girls has a singing rehearsal on Sunday. We did have four Bytes out last Sunday however.

Blimey – you are out of circulation for a few days etc ....

Rather than bore all who frequent this forum with general comment on the future for the class you all expect and commercial stuff I’ll be posting something on the Cirrus website later.  Needless to say the background is complicated ... I’ll leave you to judge if you do get to read it.

On the ‘for sale’ boat – If both boat and price check out then grab it with both hands would be my advice ! ... and before anyone thinks twice !  If we did not have the Rondar version coming along I really would buy it myself.   Sails, spars, foils and fittings etc are worth a lot more in their own right if in decent nick.

Very briefly given my comments above – Fully interchangeable Rondar hulls will soon be available later in the year direct from that builder plus their agents/distributors and contacts in both N.America and the UK.

There will be an ‘offer’ when launched ... but I’d still grab a bargain if it is there for the taking now.  As design rights holders (who receive design fees) we can only be pleased whenever boats are sold !

UPDATE

The absolute bargain Icon advertised on ‘Apollo Duck’ has either sold (or been withdrawn for re-pricing !).   That was rather quick if someone did manage to grab it..

There is still a good used one available on ‘Duck’ – the owners one shown at the Dinghy Show this year – at a goodish but more regular price.....  They are looking for around  5,900.

We also have our own demo one available from the end of next month (after Sailfest) as the Rondar hulls will be available soon by then.  Details on this particular boat can be found on the Cirrus website ... - boat '03' seen above !

If anyone else wants to try one do get in contact with the CA or with us.
