I love the idea of Graeme taking advice from Noah on building boats out of wood.

I know you won't like this but the cvrda really are your friends as far as steaming and bending bending ply advice is concerned. You don't have to register... just read what others have done and are doing. You can then beat yourself with birch twigs to redeem your soul and conscience.

LOL agreed   Good to see Graeme having another go.  I do wonder whether an RS Aero might be cheaper in the long term though.

I remember that and I did give it a lot of thought, I can't remember why I discounted it. Downwind drag it might have been, could see it flying upwind but tricky not to have lots of draggy surfaces offwind was what I think I thought, it's the same idea though. Did you never feel tempted to build it and see?

Thanks for those links - you've got to love those wood botherers... they're even talking about 'ugly' plywood, I'd hate to think I'll ever get to the stage they are, where I'm contemplating dating it.

Scow moth?

You could sail with the boat heeled to give the narrow waterline along the leeward chine ... loads of righting moment, and mega stable offwind.

Anyone remember Tenspar rigs?

Have the rig on a space frame that can be pulled up to windward, like a windsurfer (you have to love the idea Greame).

And wait for it ... how about leeboards?

Proven ditch concept that kicks up as per the brief, easy to play around and experiment with.

Might be some technology that you could borrow from inflatable SUP's, howabout being able to change the underwater shape using inflatable bladders, you could have a nice round low drag displacement shape for light winds using a central bladder, then inflate the outboard bladders for more righting moment in a breeze.  You read it here first ... in a Peter Chilvers sort of way!
