There are a few guys looking to build a fleet of Zero's (possible Aero's) at our club. Think 5 or 6 looking to order together.
Was just wondering if they are that much faster than a Laser (-100 'Units') and faster than even the Scorpion or Merlin

The view of many D-Zero sailors that I have spoken to is that it will likely settle out at around 1035 or so once the data is in the system so around 50 points faster than a Laser. A much nice sail than a Laser though. I no longer need to use my hiking pads.

The word on the street is that the Aero 9 will settle at a similar figure PY wise, we shall see in February when the RYA (should) issue ENs for both boats.

Should? I doubt they have enough data for a EN number. I think the cut off is 1st of December for data so would there even be a 100 individual results by then?

Hopefully there will be more data in the New Year Alex.  Plenty before the Dinghy Ex anyway.

Isn't one of the key benefits of the move to EN to offer a faster change response to the data coming in from new and rapidly developing classes?  Although I would agree, if the data really isn't there by then, there should be no obligation to publish something regardless.

As I understand the cut off is 1st Dec, after that it'll go into next year (2016)

I doubt either the zero/aero will have a number.

Well there are quite a few Zeros being raced PY at the moment, especially at places like Grafham and Emsworth so lets hope they do their returns and the data gets used.

Hunts will be contributing I am told, we have 2 Zeros racing at the moment.

I can see why the Aero might not hit the target if 100 results are required though as they will be split across 3 rigs.

That's the key, do they do returns... I guess you guys should be pushing hard for everyone in the fleet to badger their own clubs.

BTW 100 isn't a target, just a number I thought up to be close to getting a EN? possibly? Maybe someone on the group could advise.

Just had a look at the current EN list and it doesn't provide any race numbers.

we we had 3, or was it 2 returns to get the initial RS100 EN established..... not that I would in any way suggest that would be enough.

We work with Great Lakes at GWSC. Not sure if we send anything to RYA. We've only had one worthy race at GWSC for data, the club champs a few weeks back and I know that data has been passed down the line to GL. Although D-Zero starts in a handicap fleet there's seldom any other boats in the start to compare times with, so we're not going to be helping much there. Plus we're moving to fleet racing in a few weeks and the stopwatches will be off.

The data from the SJ Winter series will doubtless help no end. We aim to digest that and use it to set PY for GWSC Spring 2015. So far we're estimating 1035 too.

5 races at our club alone will have generated at least 20 across both classes.  My perception is that the Aero is a little bit quicker across the conditions.
