My 3p worth, which you almost certainly won't like, take the hull as is, fit a chute and a decently sized but relatively flat cut sym spinnaker (like a MR!) and twin pole system.

Assy would be waste of time for puddle sailing and/or running "deep" on small courses, waggle pole or not.  I've seen several waggle pole efforts, none of them, IMO, at all convincing.

Go sailing in a twin pole MR and then figure out if an "un-chined" version would be for you.

Basically that is what you're talking about having, and there's a lot to be said for that IMO.

Grumph, you seem unclear on whether you want simple or complicated. You say you want simple, but then devise stringtastic systems. My very strong advise would be:
1. Sail it in pure Icon mode lots
2. Chop the foredeck off and replace with a scoop deck
3. Fit a self tacking jib
4. Fit a carbon pole and fractional assy kite
5. Ignore everyone else ;-)

This silly boat lark is complicated, I'm here to sort it out.

Fractional Assy? What's that (picture please).

Scoop Deck? What like the Alto?

Sail an MR? That's blasphemy.

Scooped, concave deck

and fractional, as in halyard not going to the top of the mast but about 3/4 or 7/8ths up.

How about this, no sillier than other ideas. Big triangular flatish kite. Attach to sprit in the middle of the bottom edge with a pulley on a short side to side rope just to let the kite move from side to side. On a true run deploy flying stick to hold one corner out to windward and use as symmetric spinnaker. When wishing to use as assy let the kite blow through, the bloody things do that anyway, and sheet it back on the wrong side. Bingo!   half a symmetric = asymmetric. Dont bore me with string problems but I suppose the sheet would be endless clew to clew.

Yes, we did this back in the day.  The assy was pink if I remember correctly, although I think it would work just as well with other colours.

What could possibly go wrong?

In essence that's what I'm thinking, without forcing the blow through, just pull it side to side and on a run jib stick and pull the main sprit back a bit.
Bear in mind it's not a big kite, so it was always going to be fractional, I've watched those other lake Merlin Boys overtake me upwind flying a bloody kite.

Merlins, they can be all over you like a bad rash in the wrong hands, I'm trying to design the cure.
