Has to be the carbon deck all the way.

The 70's Lark style blue is not my favourite.

Looking forward to having a good look over the boat this week when it arrives up here.

He is possibly going to be out for racing this Wednesday night so I will now see one for the flesh for the first time.

We will now have my 100, a vareo and a D1 to show the 3 different singlehanded  hiking asymetric options.  Cant wait to see it and see how it goes compared to my 100.

Cheers,

Keith

Hi Keith,  The boat heading your way is an ex demo, orginal deck, D-One.  I will be interested to hear how things fair with the arrival of a D-One in Dalgety Bay.  Keep us posted

Some people want to see the new deck so I am posting some pics below (apologies to those who don't like the blue).  I will try to take some more pictures of a white/carbon decked boat later this week.

When you look at how well the new deck lines have referenced the other angles on the boat it is amazing to think you didn't do it like this in the first place!

Looks really good.

And now having sailed an RS100 I can say although I liked its look against the the original D-One. The RS did not suit me ergonomically, and there are some issues with capsize recovery I didn't like. I have a bug bear about over buoyancy.

I need to sail a D-One now to confirm my thoughts on how I expect it to sail.

Jack,

If you are a Burghfield lad....its just a hop n a skip to QM.

You are welcome to take mine out for a spin...PM me we can arrange.

FWIW i think the d-1 is a great looking boat and maybe
it's a brit thing but i defo prefer all white boats. I
remember glass ents that had blue decks and white hulls
and how naff they looked then, no one would go for that
combo nowadays.

That carbon deck boat looks the bizz, Im definatly not a
fan of brightly coloured boats, saying that the lighter
colour greys and even blue is ok just not that dark blue.

Just cant stop looking at the boat.

Well I think the new deck does look better but the boat is still pretty much as it was and does not look ugly to me ... more purposeful ... and the pictures & videos seem to show the boat sails very well and seems to carry a good range of weights and has a good start of an international circuit. Early days but it looks a good start.

"Secondly, what's the bit of string/elastic going across the transom- a
rudder centring bungee? Are they really necessary, or can it be removed
once the helmsman's a little more proficient?"

IMHO its a complete waste of elastic and all it serves is to trap the tiller extension causing all sorts of probs during a tack....however....if you pin the same bit of elastic down under the toe staps then it serves as a wonderfull way of keeping the spinnaker sheets near your feet so when the kite is hoisted you have them to grab instead of healing to leeward (eeek) to pick them up.

rest of the lines off very well and Norbert is 100% right about the Blue- it
cetainly added a retro look many of us here would probably not want on
boat designed in the 21st century- not sure I'd pick Black personally for
this boat, the grey and white look seems to be the best visual iteration in
Matteo's three examples, it sets off the non-slip flooring very well imo.

Other than the relatively forward mast position, it certainly loses the
rounded 'look n feel' of its Finn heritage which was what I personally found
so underwhelming about the boat when it was launched.

I can see what you mean about purposefulness Rick- a good example is
the kite sock; look how it extends the full the length of the boat and is a
little on show (that's not 'ugly', but it's certainly not 'aesthetic' either). But
watch the hoists in the videos- it's damn quick compared to a typical 100
hoist and we've had some minor retrofits to get the sock a little
smoother- doesn't appear to be an issue for the D-One and let's be
honest, getting the kite system as hassle free as possible has got to be a
priority above all others for asymmetric sailing.

Rodney- is the kite twin patched or do you simply need the full run of the
cockpit as it's a large kite?

Secondly, what's the bit of string/elastic going across the transom- a
rudder centring bungee? Are they really necessary, or can it be removed
once the helmsman's a little more proficient?

James, The kite is twin patched but even then, due to it's size, it still uses the full sock length.

There are some who like the shock cord across the back to keep the kite sheet tidy and out of the way but Tim and some others prefer not to use it.  All down to personal preference.

Had a good look over the d1 at the club tonight and it looks superb. Looks huge in the flesh beside my 100.

I love the transom.

The wholepackage is a quality piece of kit.

Cant wait to see it on the water.

Cheers,

Keith.

a few weeks )

Over the transom? Why?

blah blah blah

Over the transom has got to be the only way to get back on board a D1.  I can't see going over the wings being very easy
