I don't fully extend all the time, so when the gust hits I can stretch out and make the most of it! |

Well surely then, you wouldn't be sailing the boat flat out and fully powered up all the time then!?! You say 'you stretch out fully when a gust hits', I take it you mean when sailing downwind? Then surely if twinning conditons, you would want to both be flat out and bearing away in the gusts, not just extending on the wire and sailing the same angle!?! |

... and check how flat the boat stays. Sometimes you just have accept that you don't look that cool all the time and concentrate on boatspeed. |

Sailing maxed downwind in a Cherub (or any other assymetric for that matter) isn't always best for VMG. As demonstrated by Andy P. Edited by Strawberry |

Hence why I said if it were twin wiring conditions. Saying that, the pic I see above looks like its only a single wire anyway. Looking at the picture it would undoubtley be more effective soaking low (as shown) rather than heating up, mind.

whats all this sissy soaking it malarky?? If you've got a small rig and a heavy boat, yeah ok soak it. If you've got a light boat and a BIG RIG then push out and make it count! The only scenario i can see emerging is you're gonna have the most fun out of anyone on the day compared to anyone sitting in the middle going dum de dum de dum! If you want a title that says, yeah i worked hard and yeah im a great sailor then im thinking maybe there's a whole range of high profile classes to choose from. If you wanna go out of control and come in with a biggest grin no matter what you position you finish, then go for a super light, twin wire, over canvassed, very short boat and push it to the max!! |

Unless it's extremely light and we have the crew up the front, we'll generally head up for power to generate apparent wind. The Laser 5000 didn't like running deep neither and we'd usually "smoke" guys who tried it when there was just enough wind to get twin wiring. Seen running deep pay big style on 4000s and even more so on RS200s and 400s but didn't reckon it would pay as much in the Cherub
