Greame
You really are looking around for Icon rig setrup photos then !!! That photo shows the original Hyde R&D sails - but in fact they were really very good. The ones in the pic you have trawled up was a very early one and the jib could have been better setup but they are not inferior to the latest Norths. We switched to Norths only because they were prefered by Devoti - although we used Norths as standard for the Blaze already we were determined to stay neutral at Cirrius on this one. The black art of using dangle pole upwind - (a banned science to the N12's apparently - but then we are heretics etc ) is still worth exploring as well - maybe not with a third sail in play though ... IF you do go for an Icon based development either sail suppliers product is fine as a sound starting point.. and I'm equally sure either would supply the additonal engine power up front you crave if our tired collection of old 'Blaze spinnakers' are not up to your standards.... ![]() Mike L. |

I thought I'd call it the 'Psychon'.
I'd have a bit of a lower clew and wrap a bit further round jib, cut to permit that carbon chute housing, and the jib cunningham thing, would take your suggestion of keeping the kite to around 12 sqm, but would rather the swinging pole than that dangle thing, face it, if it looks wrong.... ![]() Then it probably is. Whether a sail is oversheeted is affected by tactical and strategical considerations as you would know. Sometimes in weather like that in the pic we will oversheet for short periods to climb into lifts etc and it works very well. Lower jib clews can work very well in some conditions but they mean that if you ease the sheet to go fast and low there's way too much twist. A higher clew can be very effective all-round. Forestay sag induces extra depth. Overlap? Depends on other design factors. In dead flat water and medium/light wind and when looking for height, a well set up jib could look like the one pictured IMHO.

So what you're saying, I'm probably right (as usual) but it might be for tactical or strategic reasons?
Always being a stickler for a well set jib as I am... ![]() ![]() |

but it served a very good purpose to put other boats in context.... thanks to the launch of the v_Twin, I actually think the D-One's not a bad looking boat anymore.
