it's my boat (hence the colour) being sailed by a horribly competent yoof.  I dare not sail it myself now for fear of bad comparisons.
the same, but different...

ha ha I see...

Looks like it was pretty ahead of its time in 1964! Regardless of the sliding seat, to me it looks a bit like the missing link between the contender and the RS600. Was it using a fully battened main already in 1964 ?

It started life with a Solo sail from the parts bin, but the one I owned with that rig was pretty gutless, and I assume it was increased to 10 Sq M when the max area was announced for the trials.

the one in the vid also has the solo sail rig, and none of the other sails that came with it are any bigger.

Yeah, yeah. It's all smiles for the camera, but just wait for the PY debate afterwards.

Those CVRDA events do look fun. Some beautiful boats.

PY's for the cvrda are based on the 1965 handicaps, where the Firefly was 100. From there, we have adjusted things where necessary (110 was just too easy for the Minisail, for instance) to make the racing fair. We also adjust for state of tune, so a boat using wooden mast and cotton sails, or even sails dating from way back, will be given a boost over boats with modern kit. There are occasional PY debates on the forum, and there is still a school of thinking that the boats with old kit need a bigger advantage, and another that they don't, but all in all it seems to work OK.

Peaky they are fun. As far a s PYs arguements go. I used to be near front of the fleet in modern(ish) Hornet but now I have the old one(417) in the vid with wooden mast and terylene sails from 1956 I am nowhere near the chocs. So in my oppinion I need more allowance  please handicapper(Rupert) Wink

Doesn't matter what allowance we give you Roger, you've still got to finish the races! LOL
Or stick to the Concourse d'Elegance!
