Also I don't think you can say that there is a
clear majority for the 8.4 yet either, many of us who have both have
migrated more towards the 10.2 now we've got more confident with the
depowering controls and got the kicker properly working... perhaps Nick
or Charlie could provide a clear breakdown on the 100 thread?

Secondly perhaps Rodney could clarify the number of active boats in the
UK now, this is surely a good opportunity to clear any misconceptions if
there really are more than 2 or 3 paying customers out there in the UK....

If I were joining a new class then local class racing is important, even if I
don't participate. The reason is simple- no one wants to buy a new boat
only to find their investment drops quickly as there's only going to be
limited market for customers happy with only handicap racing and jetting
off to Italy for class racing.

James I was just summarising what I read from posters on the 100 thread that's all.
I take you point about learning curve.
However I disagree with your other point.
You have to start somewhere, fleets don't just magically appear.
If the boat suits your needs and skill set then get it....others may join if they see it suits them.
In all my life of sailing there has never been such a 'black sheep' mentality to new classes until recently.
I just don't understand it.
Perhaps its just a sad reflection on a changing society?
Anyhoooo, enjoy

SMOD is just a label mate....

Perhaps the D-One is SMOD splinter cell, breaking the mould?...I dunno

All those poor old boats are just victims of technology changing.
Its easy to copy something and make it lighter, that's what happened to those heavy old things.
Are you in Marketing by the way, you seem to know a lot about it?

Cheers

Tim, He's not marketing!  Best that you just ignore him just like me and many others who have kindly PM'd me about his antics!

Just keep on enjoying the D-One.

By the way, 7 D-Ones have already commited to Federation Week and more for the open meeting in September at BSC.  As you know we have arranged transport for all the UK D-Ones to go to Valencia for early October to the Gold Cup.

"Chill Winston"

15 years jeesh that's a lot of discussion.

So SMOD means soooooo nothing to me, I had to look it up.
It amazes me to think "who rights the rulebook" that everyone follows to the letter, spending cash while they follow like sheep?
FFS if the "boat" (not boot) fits then enjoy your choice, ignore all the non believers and nay sayers.

Sooooo what if the "online chat" was not listened to, does that really matter?
I really don't think so.

So TT u sailing tomorrow?
I am babysitting so no show 4 me
Enjoy

I have just heard that there is a D1 coming to our club at Dalgety Bay in Scotland this week.

He is possibly going to be out for racing this Wednesday night so I will now see one for the flesh for the first time.

We will now have my 100, a vareo and a D1 to show the 3 different singlehanded  hiking asymetric options.  Cant wait to see it and see how it goes compared to my 100.

Cheers,

Keith

Excellent... I must just check my map.
My mother lives in Helmsdale, and the only sailing I have done in Scotland is 1989 for the Topper Nationals in North Berwick, one of the best Nationals I have ever done.
Now where is Dalgety bay?

Dalgety is just East of the Forth rail bridge on the North shore.

I cant wait to see the D1 as I initially wasn't too keen on the look but it has grown on me and I think it will probably be even better in the flesh.

It will be interesting to now compare it side by side with the 100 on and off the water.

Would a boat up here tempt you to a visit up North Tim?

I was actually talking over with a North Berwick 100 sailor the possibility of arranging a training weekend at the club later in the year initially aimed at just really the 100's but thinking about this again there wouldn't be alot of boats at it as there are still single figure 100's in Scotland but it would make much more sense to open it up to all hiking asymetric boats ,i.e Vareos and D1.

We have some really good experienced coaches at the club and great facilities so its something I will gauge the interest in and see what happens.

Cheers,

Keith.
