Yes, thats a nice video. The boat clearly creams upwind with relatively little
effort (presumably because of the righting moment from the wings) but have to say there were a few moments there where the bow looked like it wasn't coming back up ! Love the idea of a highwind series. Tarifa in a Levante sounds like fun - reckon you would need the rubber pants and cycle clips as well as the butt plug though !! |

That was really funny....chappy spent loads of time putting the numbers on in the blazing sunshine...hoisted sail and everyone laughed. Agreed sailmakers job. Only 2 boats with the wing extenders, only needed for the lighter guys, to give them a bit more leverage. Timg |

I am starting to think my rs100/musto skiff fund might
need to go somewhere else! That looks absolutely amazing even if I wouldn't have any others to play with. |

I am actually finding that the bendy mast is really useful. When I am doing handicap racing and sometimes the reaches are a bit tight and the gusts hit hard, rather than bearing off like hell, I can mess around with the kicker tension and mainsheet so that I can chop and change between sailing with mainsail power with spinny curling or spinny power and mainsail hardly doing much. It helps keep the boat flat while making the mark. I think that gives you more choices, other than to flog the kite or just drop it. Obviously it's not as quick, but RTC racing sometimes you have to make do. Timg

Andy, i am of exactly the same opinion as you.
Rodney/Luca, could you post some more pictures of the D-one with the new deck layout, in white or grey? Almost some brochure shots? Not ones of them sailing?? |

I dont think i have even seen one in the flesh but i agree some more pics of the boat and of the layout inside and out would help alot. Thanks Tim for the explaination about the mast it does seem odd but at least you seem to have the hang of adjusting so its under control. James i think the uk series has not happened yet as there is not enough uk boats to warrent it yet.How many have been sold in the uk now ? |

Not enough for me to think that the 100 isnt the better option for me, althogh there is no way i could ever afford the D-one, but if money was no object then I would still take the 100 for the fleet. I wonder if the 100 would still be the bigger class if the price was the same? I have to admit the D-one is a really nice looking boat, in terms of a sailing machine. Even when it had the old deck I still liked it, but the 100 is also a very nice boat to sail. I think they are two different boats, although the same in theory, they are for different people in reality. I want a boat that I can race often close to home (in the uk) the d-one doesnt offer this at the moment but the 100 should, so I am happy, but I would like to have a sail in the D-one some day to see what the rig is like in the flesh! Well done luca and rodney for creating an awesome bit of kit for those who can afford to sail and travel! |

I am not sure of the exact numbers, but they are scattered round UK. HISC, Manchester, QMSC, one on its way up to Scotland, so its bubbling away in the UK. As for Europe, its going great, maybe helped by the previously strong Euro? It's funny what people's reasons are for buying boats...mine was I wanted a single handed RS400, and I just wasn't convinced by the RS100 that it would meet that requirement, with the rig being smaller and the class being split in two with the radial version. As it turns out I appear to be correct about the D-One, and more and more people seem to be gravitating to the 8.4 rig on the 100 which is just way to small for me, I deffo don't want to be sailing around with Lasers, otherwise I would save myself a load of money and sail a Laser. If you want to sail a D-One and you are lighter then the wings move out and you are able to race against other D-One's (weight equalised from 70kgs to 100kgs), not change sails. If I wanted class racing I would sail my RS400 where we have 12 club racers every week, however I have been enjoying the D-One so much that hasn't happened. As for the Italian regatta trips...in all my years of sailing I have never sailed abroad, never went to Garda with the RS's, so I decided to do a couple but now I have found that I am in the lead with one event to go, so I feel I should try and finish it! Obviously I want it all to be happening on my doorstep, and next year it will as things take off, and the Europeans come over to the UK events....but you have to start somewhere!!! The same thing happens with all new classes just to different degrees. There have been a whole load of misconceptions about the D-One, especially from this website and the resident trolls, but you simply have to test sail these boats and see which one fits you....its as simple as that. Rodney is arranging more demo days, so you can come and have a go. Cheers Timg P.S. Pictures on the way
