Or just pm me direct. ...

The boat will be here for a few weeks so I can try it across a range of conditions to enable me to decide if I want to buy one.  It arrived this morning and looks great, though Er Indoors instantly demanded a thwart.

It looks just the job for our gravel pit, if this one does well hopefully we can get more!
the same, but different...

Ideal boat for going fast in a confined space, I'd say - similar space in the market that the Albacore had (and still has, in places) 40 years ago. Not the fastest boat, but the fastest round the course in sheltered waters.

Winging it ..

By coincidence we have just finished  fitting one of the prototype thwarts to a new Cirrus demo boat today - so if the local  'Crews Union' need to try one (and it sounds like they do already !) just contact Cirrus or the CA.

This boat will be getting around clubs in due course after a couple of weeks at Burghfield first and we have growing line forming for this one  already (But as always we want to get some time with the kit ourselves !)

If you need any tips or guidance on Icon sailing or set-up just ask us and/or the CA.

On the 2000, use of the thwart by the crew is a no-no upwind, at it means he is sitting too far aft, leading to a dragging transom (unless the helm is ahead of the thwart).

Can the Icon thwart be used upwind without similarly compromising performance, or would the crew-weight be better placed further forward?

Hi Maniac

Icon has slightly different characteristics to a 2000 ...  Wink   The cockpit is also fairly large which means the thwart can be further forward relative to the optimum crew position than it might appear from photos.  It can still be a comfortable perch for those that like them without the helm getting too precious..... Besides the crew should be hiking upwind !

I've got a sneaking feeling that quite a few helms might use them occasionally but do remember   you simply don't have to have a thwart at all and if it is fitted that you don't have to use it.  I'm going to play with one myself now so we can try a few things out.  Why not borrow an Icon or come along to one of the 'try-an-Icon' days

What a nasty thing to do to such a lovely looking boat .... The crew shouldn't have an armchair they should be working -  Wink

Anybody else not able to see Mike's pic of the icon?  Visible in Safari, but nothing there in Chrome.
