Yes it is a shame that the horizon is not quite correct, in the camerman's defence it was much more wavy than it looks.

To be able to point higher (without having to sit in the boat) you need more power.

In a Laser having a deeper foot provides more shape in the bottom of the sail which also helps you to point higher.

When footing you obviously need to depower the sail (and maybe even sheet out) so you can sail lower without the boat heeling too much...

I hope to get the footing video up later today Smile

I think its great when people take time to produce and make available training and coaching videos such as the one above.
Jon is a professional coach but these clips are available to all. I find them very useful and always share them with the young Topper sailors I coach.
Am looking forward to the "footing" clip to understand how to avoid just dropping away to leeward without going faster!

I showed the clip to my Europe girlies here at Hunts and they found it useful, particularly as some of them are struggling upwind and this technique works well in a Europe.  I understand about the fuller sail at the bottom; without it you'd just be slow.  I tried it in the Europe in the big wind this morning and it worked well.  Maybe Jon might like to think about coming up to Hunts to do some Europe coaching?

I'm looking forward to the footing clip because I think that's what I need in the contender, if I can ever sail it again.
the same, but different...

I would be more than happy to come and coach the Hunts Europe girlies but I am currently booked to coach everyday until August 15th... so I might want a little rest after then!!!

Stunning film from German A Class event. One of those films that reminds me why after over 30 years, I still love the industry. The bonus is it's about sailing!
