I saw one in the flesh for the first time at HISC this weekend - new deck, all white with carbon inlays. Lovely. |

I just think folk have got bored with it, it's still one ugly mofkr you can tell
that from the fact it looks better from behind, even though in that shot it's clearly desperate for a decent sized mine to go down (of which fortunately there are few on Lake Garda) However that doesn't stop folk buying stuff like that, witness the hoards of mediocrity already afloat, there are very few boats you can describe as stylish. I'd still buy that D1 if circumstances restricted me to lakes or reservoirs purely for the fact it's obviously a faster boat. But it still has the stench of age and the Finn about it but then that I guess is to be expected. Then if ugly were a defining factor there wouldn't be a Mirror afloat.. Edited by G.R.F. |

... and if personal taste versus 'majority opinion' were a factor all owners of Yellow Ferrari's would be instantly, and completely, vaporised, leaving the rest of us to admire red, or very less likely, black, fezza's.... without the utter horribleness of yellow ones spoiling the general landscape like the horrific dissfigurements they obviously are...

Do you think so?
I don't, there's just so much MFP (Mast Foot Pressure), so close to the nose so they can accommodate that damn long foiled low aspect sail, a boat built to go one way fast, upwind and to hell with the downwind leg, obviously hoping the kite will neutralise the MFP downhill and we all know the jury's out on that one.. |

No Graham you are wrong. I think you need to forget about the errors in handling early this year. Don't forget how new we all were to the class, when the jury was sent out to discuss that topic! There is no doubt about it if you pointed the boat dead downwind with kicker applied to hoist the kite then you will run into trouble in the windy stuff, but you just simply do not need to do that. Bearing off to a broad reach is enough to hoist the kite whilst comfortably sitting on the wings. It's really simply when you know how. I have just come back from Garda where it was blowing 25knots + in some races and it was utterly fantastic. We had a course of approx 1.5 nautical miles and a storming downwind leg that just went on forever and ever.....utterly amazing experience, fun watching everyone else capsize on a gybe and making up 5 places after going the wrong way up the beat! You may find a bit of amusement in that one of the race leaders was taken out by a windsurfer whose lane crossed our downwind leg! You are welcome to come and have a go if you fancy experiencing it for real, I think you will change your mind on its performance abilities when comparing it to your theoretical comments. Guys have been winning windy regattas weighing in at 70kgs and round about your height, so the wing weight equalization really works across a wide range. Cheers Timg |

Sorry Rodders who're you trying to kid, that could be any gravel pit in the midlands! Seriously, bloody awesome! You could get a sailmaker to put the sail numbers on, they look really naff and amateur. How many are sailing with the butt plug extensions? ![]() |

only two boats have the extended wings , they are a must for guys under 70
kgs like 125......sailors did a bit of swimming too but they loved it so much in the blow that we are going to have next year the d one strong wind series...so far venues suggested are of course torbole, than alimini, sardinia , cesme in turkey, my preferred sailing venue, as well as somewhere down south spain....tarifa....we will see, but i have already started working on it... |
