The race is the start of a 1933 challenge New York Canoe Club Challenge Trophy (Team) Race, second oldest International sailing trophy after the Americas Cup.

Sorry about the image quality, but I'm not about to put a 70 year old books on the flatbed scanner, you'll have to put up with snapshots from the phone!

That was one of the great rule evasions of all time: for those who don't know the event was pre *International* Canoe and Uffa built two boats that measured to both US and UK rules. The US rules mandated two masts (hence the two ketch rigged US boats) and, I think, no standing rigging, so Uffa rigged the second "mast" as a rigid forestay with a jib on it.
