I shall certainly be sailing my Supernova for the foreseeable future. I am selling my Laser and early super light Tasar as my club has an excellent Vision rental scheme for the odd time I still double hand.

My current singlehanded conundrum is whether to have a last go in the Fast Fleet next year either with a D-One or an old Vortex or accept I am not up to such antics anymore - lacking both the agility and talent Confused. I would still keep the Nova for when I had come to my senses...

When I next want a shiny new singlehander (as I do every few years), then I will look around at whats on the market at that point. If there is an RS out I'd certainly look at it as I would any other boat.

Looking at the detailing on the deck mould I would put money on the fact that is the final moulding for the hull & deck.

No doubt there will be final tweeks to the layout and development of the rig but the mouldings look like they have been done properly to me ....

Looking closer at the boat on the water has anyone else noticed that the sail may in fact not have full length battens?  There appear to be 3 shorter battens at the leech of the sail whilst the darker full length battens could be intentionally misleading.

The stripes across the sail aren't battens, they are lines across to be able to read what is happening with sail shape.

The current sail is semi battened with full battens to support the square head.

So semi-soft then kind of like the current Blaze sail which has a couple of full battens to support the top more effectively.

Regarding laminates vs dacron.
I was talking to the Contender fleet over the weekend and some there from the top of the gang considered dacron a good choice for overall usability. Laminate fast in a narrow wind range for a particular cut but inclined to be on off, dacron possibly slightly slower but much easier to get close to fast over a wide range of conditions.

The opinion was definitely that rumours of the death of Dacron are greatly exaggerated.

Lightnings can use Dacron (both radial or panel) or radial Mylar. As far as I know the jury is still out on which is faster.

Also, someone told me that Hartley were producing a simplified, cheaper Supernova but trawling the internet I found nothing, anyone know anything about this?

I'm not sure about simplified and cheaper, but there is talk of development of a smaller rigged "junior/youth/female" version. Not sure it's a good idea myself..
