Get some of this up the front give it a proper name and we'll have a decent boat yet..

It would be nice to have something like that, with the jib tack attachment somehow recessed in, so the kite could not catch on it. But needs to be easy to fit/remove jib with cold hands...
And while you're at it, a jib cunningham?

Jib Cunningham? Don't they get tensioned from the head ?

Most of the jibs I've known get tensioned from the hoist, some independent from the forestay others not, but I've never come across one that gets tensioned from below a la cunningham, is that what you need or are you after a jib 'kicker'..

To tension the cloth on the luff wire, not the wire itself.

In fairness for Grumph, the Alto doesn't have a wire up the jib luff, and tension is altered through a very effective halyard/luff tensioning system.

could it also be attributed to the 'more than one sail does my head in' mentality as well?

Jib Cunnigham.......a few classes have had them. Some classes that haven't got one tinker with the bit of string that holds the tack to the luff wire in order to get varying degrees of luff tension.

not much room under the foredeck of a i14 to run the control back anywhere, without potentially snagging the kite, pole or any one of about a dozen other things!
