It is important to ask questions. We have temporarily given up a lot of liberty to reduce the impact of Covid. We all need to ask questions to ensure that we get that liberty back.

Remember Pastor Martin Niemoller's famous quotation. Let's be vigilant.

Mistral Div II prototype board, Original Windsurfer, Hornet built'74.

The reality is A&E's are empty, that 4000 bed hospital? Empty.

There will be a spike, like those doctors said, but that's because we've all been cooped up and our natural immunity has been weakened by it.

I've NEVER had hay fever, yet today on my bike ride for exercise that I use to replace my sunday sailing, I'm sniffling and sneezing like a covid victim, if I were less analytical I'd be blocking the 111 lines.

I believe this whole affair has been a gross over reaction, based on the dubious advice of that one discredited 'expert' Ferguson.

I'm entitled to an opinion, you lot may disagree, I believe you've all been media brain washed, I believe the Government had also been misinformed but politicians are more scared of the media than they are of ruining a few businesses.

We have never in our entire history allowed our civil rights and libertys to be so abused and we should be questioning, not meekly accepting all the bullsh*t we're being fed.

I pretty agree with most of the sentiments expressed in the two posts above, I fact I deleted a post saying much what Riv said.

Over-reaction? Actually I'm not sure about that, and its better to over-react than underestimate. But we are - thankfully -  nowhere even close to the projected numbers when this first started to kick off. The true reckoning on this will be in how we go forward I think.

And we should definitely be scrutinising and holding to account those who have restricted our liberty. That is the difference between 2020 Europe and 1930's Germany/Italy/Spain.

Of course no one likes being locked up GRF, and there has obviously been irresponsible reporting and hysteria.  That is the curse of the 21st century - 24hr news outlets looking to fill space.

But filter out all the noise and there is one simple stat. Normally at this time of year there are about 10,000 deaths in England & Wales every week.  Currently there are about 18,000 a week.  Almost twice as many people are dieing as is normal. That is even with the lockdown measures in place.

My niece is just starting her third straight 12 hour night shift on a Covid ward. There are a few spare beds which is good but without the controls this would be very different.

Being totally free is great, but not as appealing if you are sick or worse.

Making a very simple thing into a major conspiracy, you will be out burning G5 masts next, for a conspiracy to have any credence, you need to say what you think it is, I could say they are doing it to see how fast nature can repair world or the virus is spread by car fumes, that's why they have locked us up to reduce pollution.

Outside the UK  "Who is Ferguson" is/would be the view .. this is a world phenomena NOT a UK one.  As said previously believe what you like, as is so predictable of course.  But let's indulge you at least briefly for a bit of entertainment  - So what possibly could be the motive ?

(But if I were you  I'd stick to just talking sailing b***ocks .....  at least we could still titter at the 'logic' employed.  Wink)

Yes, I hear what you're saying, I just wonder about the stats, the way they are complied, the way they are presented, I've read so many contrary feeds my heads spinning, but the one which read the media are lying to hype the figures kind of stuck, as did the actual 'searching' for covid related deaths to support the figures.

Here's a question I posed elsewhere, what's happened to the normal garden variety flu figures?

Where are the figures for those who have recovered which a balanced media shoudl report alongside the deaths.

Meanwhile domestic abuse is up, child abuse, I've not been able to source anything about the current suicide rate but I wouldn't put money on it not rising.

I don't see this as a conspiracy, I view it as global media running out of control and idiot politicians badly informed   over reacting, that and mass hysteria, which you can always put down as never underestimating the predictability of stupidity.

But perhaps most importantly I see no logic in preventing us going onto the water in our boats.

The reporting IS frustrating, but that is sadly inevitable.  It is the same phenomena as Brexit, lazy journalists, sensationalism, willfully(?) ignorant consumers wanting fast food news, to much space to fill and not enough progress from one bulletin to the next.  That and piss poor understanding of statistics by those journalists.

Sometimes you just have to grin and bear it because the alternatives are worse.
