Watch this space - we are working on multi scoring options over and above class based handicaps. We are already extracting class results, and now looking at other varients, including personal handicaps. We already have the ability to measure individual improvement across the series based on times. This could act as a great motivator to those outside of the top flght. |

Are you? How's that rose tint working out for you? Dinghy Sailors are conservative by nature and you'd just replace one set of folks to be moaned about by a minority, by another set moaned about by the majority. You want to be that guy? And what you're proposing doesn't even have lashings of gravy does it? After all, who's paying for it? GP14 sailors with their halyards tied up with old tights? Has it occurred to you there's a damn good reason windsurfers call dinghy sailors - 'whingey-sailors'? Mate, it's you who has forgotten his roots, or worse, you've finally been assimilated.

Your changing room must be a barrel of laughs... not sure I've heard the RYA being mentioned once in ours. |

Do you have any evidence to back that up?

Clearly don't travel that much then, you should have been in the IOS changing rooms, then over at the youth event at Downs last summer and heard them all cracking on, then listen to Team fifteen folk, then the mutterings down at the Southampton boat show at the time of the Zero/Aero debacle.
Ah Why? Eh? does everybody hate them?

Early days, but we have been encouraged by the feedback from some of the initial testing and discussions. Regardless of their race rank, people will be able to see how they have improved (or not) as a percentage score.

Don't they know that already by opening their eyes to those whom they finish in front of? I guess they could also look at the results once they are calculated, but by that point I'd imagine half the demographic you're discussing are packed up and heading home.

And it'll be more of the same. Rather than something calculated from scientific rather than data driven fact, averaged between sea and inland then set in stone for the craft unless the craft physical alters, and the handicap derived by the individual and his/her experience then carried from craft to craft. A much fairer system set by the individual rather than some disinterested body or profiteering event organiser. Log in, check your craft handicap, select or set your own, then use it. No need to enter events, or travel you just sail to this or that handicap and the driving force would be to reduce it.

what an inward looking view of the sport? When I sail I primarly do it for the pleasure of it. I know when I sail well (for me) and when I'm decidedly shaky.
When I race I do it try and beat other people, I'm more focused on them and getting past them, or occasionally, keeping them behind me. I'm not very good at it, but that remains the ambition of every race I enter. If the whole rationale was to shift from the boat on boat interaction of racing those guys in other boats, and move towards trying to improve myself to a Perfect 10 gymnast, then frankly I don't see the appeal. Leave that mentality to Strictly Come Dancing on Ice with the Stars thanks.... this is racing.
