420 winged rudder

   How big were these things? A "fence" on the rudder blade a little below the waterline to stop ventilation (NOT cavitation, that's an entirely separate phenomenum) is not a new idea: people have used them on and off since at least the 1960s. But that wouldn't need to be more than two or three inches wide at the most.

A fence would also normally go right round the leading edge, rather than be separate each side.

	N12 is fast enough to benefit. 420 is similar speed. Well, twice as quick in breeze. Closer to the surface means more squashing of the stern wave.

	I can't beleive a 420 would be fast enough to need them.

	Possibly reduced cavitation by stopping air travelling down the blade?

	At the BM last weekend two 420s launched before us, each had a winged rudder that look like they had added fibreglass wings to the side, as they were different sizes and added after I take it this is a class mod but what advantage does this have? They were fit half way down, so not at the bottom like the moth.
