I have been reading this thread with interest.

That is an excellent example cited by JimC

When a class chooses (it is not mandatory) to become an ISAF class then you should expect to operate to its requirements.

Being a ISAF class puts certain costs onto a class not least the ISAF plaque that has to paid for on every new boat and the costs associated and International Jury of 5 people at a world championships.

I think ISAF classes can really be split into 2 groups; Olympic classes ... and the rest ...

The "rest" are really amateur racings classes and only serious racing classes perhaps should seek ISAF status.

After all what are the benefits of ISAF status to the amateur owner / racer?

.... IMO the 'benefits' are exactly the same as those enjoyed by my local cycling club from the UCI, or my local athletics club from IAF, the "warm feeling" you get from keeping some chefs and staff at Michelin-starred restaurants in Geneva gainfully employed (not to mention legions of "moat cleaners" and live in nannies)

very good ...

I guess the issue is why bother with the ISAF status for a class like the RS100 when you don't have the will to bankroll the guys in blazers ...

Could it be the builders are keen for ISAF status to flog lots of boats worldwide, while it's the sailors who have to pay for the Jury?

Older classes became 'International' when the rules were different, do they have the option of 'losing' their ISAF status should it no longer be beneficial?

In my view, the fact you need a jury of several highly qualified people to make rules decisions suggests there is something wrong with a set of rules that the competitor is supposed to be able to memorise and apply instantly.

Well it is 280 Euros to enter the Contender Worlds at Como this year and it is only 70 Euros to enter the RS100 Worlds at the same venue. However the Contenders are a week long event with IJ and the RS100s have no IJ and a 3 to 4 day event.

Why can't the Contender Class seek special dispensation, like the RS100 Class, from having an IJ?

The vote has been carried... a new set of class rules is available to download from the Class Association website.

Not so fast young yellowwelly ...

The RS100 class rules are here:

If there is ever any query or protest on class rules for an ISAF class then the jury (or protest committee) will always defer to the class rules on the ISAF website.

If there is a change to any class rule then ISAF have to approve that and then you will see the class rules updated on the ISAF site.

Any other document has no formal standing.

Sadly I'm more the latter than the former.... and assumed the announcement on the website and new rules download meant it was a done deal. My Bad...
