Confused

Well as jimc points out an si that amends the class rule needs ISAF approval.

If there is to be a worlds then of course there will be a 5 person international jury present, they love these class rules niggles and will enjoy this ....

I assume the RS100 class will have an ij?

That is an interesting question as the entry fee for a 3 day event is only £62 with only 24 entries so far.

That hardly pays for the 5 man IJ who all get travel expenses, plus accommodation plus all meals paid for them.

I seem to remember that when I ssailed Contenders at least half of the entry fee went towards paying for the Jury & measurers required to run an World Championship. Their entry fee was usually £200 to £300 and the smallest fleet I sailed in was about 100 boats.

Hi all...

ISAF have granted dispensation to several small classes over the need for a full international IJ - saves a small fortune. RS100's will follow this route.

Any class rule change will not be ratified until November so the class will consult ISAF as to how it is intended to run the Worlds. This will give clarity to a wooly existing rule, and some background to the rule change.

The 8.4 class will be more numerous for sure - but there are certainly 6 10.2's from HISC going and for example all the boats sold to Sweden are 10.2's - maybe 15 or so, and most have said they are coming. 10.2 sails are selling steadily so they are out there somewhere.

I believe there is a move for the 7.4 to be "officially allowed" in 8.4 events, and a rule being proposed to this effect.

I note that the Solo class refers to the B sail plan in the rules as so many classes are now transferring to the new ISAF rules format which on page 3 say in bold letters "If these rules do not say that you can, then you can not".  This of course used to be a mantra usually associated with SMODS.

If anyone thinks the 10.2's will be easy to win they are very welcome to come and have a try - RS are offering to get boats there and back for £200ish - I know a bunch of us are looking forward to a fun regatta in the sun (hopefully) just as we are thinking winter series' in the UK.

That is very interesting, what other classes have been included in this?

Is this published on the ISAF website somewhere? Do you have a link?

Just the way it was set up I guess - or rather the template was just taken from another class. We certainly had to fill it in on the on line form. Would be useful to know , though.

I guess if I do I could decide what rig to use on the first day of the regatta and not have to decide this far in advance. Well I would hope that would be an option.

But wouldn't that add to the confusion Mark?  Better to know in advance if you've got someone to race against or not... of course, it wasn't an issue before the (concept of the) rule change as everyone raced together.

It's an interesting point about the IJ... have ISAF softened on this with other classes?  Sounds like a  Thumbs Up if they have, as at least some smaller classes can off the ground.
