Well I don't like "This action is not permitted if it clearly propels the boat".
It is also a judgement thing from other competitors or from the race jury. You can't even have it as once per tack or gybe as if you don't do it right first time then you have to keep doing it.
It would be better just to ban full length battens.

I don't know if it got passed, (hope so) but the following addition to rule 42.3 was proposed at ISAF conference this year. Most welcome and reasonably uncontroversial I suggest...
42.3 (e) If a batten is inverted, the boat’s crew may pump the sail until the batten is no longer inverted. This action is not permitted if it clearly propels the boat We all have to do it of course, but I understand there have been some silly jury initiated protests at some major events... |
