Perhaps this photo of one should have remained hidden.

I don't rememeber you test sailing a D-One!!!

Don't knock it until you've tried it.  By the way everyone who has tested the D-One loves it and that's something you can't say about some of the alternative dinghies on the market.

Indeed. Remember this beast had no centreboard, which combined with the amount of windage due to the high freeboard meant this wasn't actually capable of sailing to windward. I recall sailing one once and being unable to beat back to shore, so we dropped the sails and rowed in, oh the shame..

Just as a slight side note....
How many of you noticed my deliberate typo in the thread name?
Failures not Failrues.
I was testing the theory that people read only a few of the letters in the word and rearrange them without thinking about it........

I had but didn't think it was worth the effort mentioning it assuming that you were suffering from fat finger syndrome.

We've got a Bonito slowly rotting away in our boat park, never thought I'd see a picture of one rigged. Yep looks rubbish but I guess that they were slightly ahead of their time being glass and clearly designed in 1903...
The one at ours has a boat builders mark as built in West Coker, Somerset, so about 1 mile from our club.

As for the Mailboat, yep truely hideous and should never ever see the light of day again. As for the D1, well the comments depend on whether you decide that a boat is a design failure due to its looks or the way it sails. It ain't that pretty but I guess that from the comments that people enjoy sailing them. So if you are Gok then its a failure, but if you're Alan Titchmarsh its a success.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest
