Yachts still have to carry them, I believe, but with VHF being more common, channel 16 is more popular, as are mobile phones...

I was only 7 going on 8 during the 3 day week, so have only vague memories of it. Orange flares (the real ones in this context) have stuck in the mind more!

Maybe not the orange flares but the flowery tiered skirts I was wearing then as a student are back in!

Yes Grumph, you're right. It was 74 when we had the Lib/Lab pact, and it was 76 when the IMF was called in.

It' like a real life version of Life on Mars. Will orange flares be back in fashion soon I wonder...

Shame on you Graham! How could you vote for that plonked? Just
wait and see what a mess him and his deranged mate George make
of things. One Tory seat in the whole of Scotland. We are not
convinced by mr smoothy up north.

Funny, I was having exactly that conversation in the pub
at lunchtime. Who else remembers 1976?

1973-4 It was, I was running a graphic
design and litho
print business back then, it turned out we were never more efficient than that period.

Worked our butts off during the three days with power, then did the
admin and stuff (typewriters back then, no computers)during the power
and phone outage days. Clients couldn't put us under tight deadline pressure and we
had plenty of time off at the weekends or days when the power was out.

At the time it kind of proved the concept that we didn't really all need to
be working 5 or 6 days a week and there was chatter about things
improving in the future - long forgotten now.

Were you off the day they did the difference between reality and make-believe at school?
